Maserati's First Downsized Engine & All-Wheel Drive
In January of this year,Detroit Motor ShowatWorld Premieremarked itsNew Quattroporte. The GT S, equipped with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, was promptly introduced in April. Now, the rear-wheel-drive Quattroporte S, featuring a 3-liter V6 engine, and the Quattroporte S Q4, Maserati's first all-wheel-drive model, have arrived.
The V6 engine, like the V8, is produced at Ferrari's Maranello facility. It delivers a maximum output of 301kW (410ps) at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 550Nm from 1,750 to 5,000rpm. It incorporates technologies such as variable valve timing, valve timing control, and direct fuel injection, mirroring the V8 engine's specifications.
Performance figures show the 'S' accelerating from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds and the 'S Q4' in 4.9 seconds. Their respective top speeds are listed as 285km/h and 283km/h.
Maserati's first all-wheel-drive Q4 AWD system utilizes an electronically controlled multi-plate wet clutch. While the default torque distribution is 0% front and 100% rear, it can optimize to a 50:50 split in just 0.15 seconds when necessary, enhancing vehicle stability and fuel efficiency.
The transmission, jointly developed with ZF, is an 8-speed automatic, consistent with the V8 model.
The body employs lightweight, high-rigidity steel. The rear-wheel-drive 'S' model weighs 1,860kg, while the all-wheel-drive 'S Q4' is 1,920kg. Both maintain an ideal front-to-rear weight distribution of 50:50.
Pricing in Japan is set at 11.95 million yen for the rear-wheel-drive Quattroporte S and 12.95 million yen for the all-wheel-drive Quattroporte S Q4. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in late September.
