Changes Mirror the Base 5 Series

The primary changes to the BMW M5's minor update, such as the option to upgrade from standard xenon headlights to adaptive LED headlights, align with those of the base 5 Series, focusing on refinements to the interior and exterior.

The exterior features a design for the M-specific double-bar kidney grille that is also reflected in the spokes of the exclusive M light-alloy wheels. This motif is newly echoed in the redesigned steering wheel.

Safety equipment is also enhanced with the Driving Assistant system, which includes a collision warning function with lane departure warning. This system monitors vehicles and pedestrians via a camera mounted on the front windshield, issuing an audible warning if a collision is imminent and activating emergency braking if no evasive action is taken. Additionally, the lane change warning, which alerts the driver to other vehicles in blind spots during lane changes, operates above 20 km/h. High-beam assistance is also available as an option.

The powertrain remains unchanged: a 4.4-liter V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine producing a maximum output of 412 kW (560 hp), paired with a 7-speed M dual-clutch transmission.

Competition Package Also Available for M6 Series

Furthermore, starting with this minor update, the Competition Package is available as an option. This package, which incorporates technology refined through racing, further enhances the sportiness of the "M5," "M6 Coupe" and "M6 Convertible," and "M6 Gran Coupe" models.

The tuned engine sees an increase in maximum output to 423 kW (575 hp). Chassis components such as the suspension and dampers have also been tuned, with the rear axle subframe, for instance, being directly coupled to the body, reflecting racing know-how. Additionally, the package includes enhancements to the stabilizers and a 10mm lower ride height, with modifications applied to the entire body.

Applying this M Performance Package is said to reduce the 0-100 km/h acceleration time by 0.1 seconds and the 0-200 km/h acceleration time by 0.2 seconds.

The DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is also set up for sportier performance in M Dynamic mode when the Competition Package is equipped. However, the comfort mode remains functional, ensuring usability for everyday driving.

Externally, the package is distinguished by exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and black chrome M twin exhaust pipes. M carbon ceramic brakes are also available as an optional extra, selectable since March of this year.
