Four-Wheel Drive and S Models Also Arrive
Mercedes-Benz Japan has already announced minor model changes for the CLS 63 AMG, along with its four-wheel drive and S models.CLS 63 AMGToday, coinciding with the launch of the new E-Class, the company has officially announced changes to its AMG model lineup.
The changes largely mirror those of the CLS 63 AMG.
The engine is a 5.5-liter V8 direct-injection twin-turbo. With a maximum output of 410 kW (557 ps) and peak torque of 760 Nm, these are truly formidable specifications. Simultaneously, the ECO start/stop function and the electronic 7-speed automatic transmission 'AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT' contribute to excellent environmental compatibility. While fuel economy figures for Japan have not yet been released, European figures for the four-wheel-drive sedan model are cited at 10.3 L/100km (approximately 9.7 km/L).
Furthermore, the 'S' model, which enhances and grades the previous performance package-equipped models, is also part of the lineup. Through engine program adjustments and increased boost pressure, this variant achieves a maximum output of 430 kW (585 ps) and peak torque of 800 Nm.
Additionally, the 'AMG limited-slip differential' enhances traction performance and further stabilizes handling during slalom driving and high-speed lane changes.
Like the standard models, a four-wheel-drive 4MATIC model is also available. This employs the performance-oriented 'AMG 4MATIC' system for AMG models, with a rear-biased torque distribution of 33:67. Coupled with a low locking torque setting, this achieves AMG's signature neutral handling. The 3-stage ESP detects understeer characteristic of four-wheel drive and instantly generates a yaw moment to counteract it through brake control.
The model lineup includes the rear-wheel-drive 'E 63 AMG' (¥14.95 million) and 'E 63 AMG S' (¥17.50 million), available only as sedans with right-hand drive. The four-wheel-drive 'E 63 AMG 4MATIC' (Sedan ¥15.20 million, Station Wagon ¥15.57 million) and 'E 63 AMG S 4MATIC' (Sedan ¥17.80 million, Station Wagon ¥18.17 million) are available in both sedan and station wagon configurations, all with left-hand drive.
The S model features the 'AMG Carbon Package' as a dedicated equipment, incorporating carbon fiber parts throughout. It also comes equipped with specially designed matte titanium grey painted 19-inch AMG 10-spoke alloy wheels and AMG red brake calipers.
The interior boasts an AMG Performance steering wheel with Alcantara grip sections and AMG carbon interior trim, creating a luxurious and sporty ambiance.
