New Soft Top Opens and Closes in 12 Seconds

The Porsche 911 Cabriolet has been an indispensable part of every model range since the prototype was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1981. While the new Cabriolet, like its predecessors, features a soft top, its distinguishing characteristic is the new hydraulic system that opens and closes the top with unprecedented speed.

This process takes a mere 12 seconds, and the top can be opened or closed while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h. The glass rear window and magnesium elements, known as roof bows, integrated into the soft top's structure prevent ballooning at high speeds. An electrically operated wind deflector protects occupants from wind buffeting when the top is down.

The new 911 Cabriolet is available in two variants: the rear-wheel-drive "911 Carrera S Cabriolet" and the all-wheel-drive "911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet." Both models are powered by a 2,981cc twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, producing a maximum output of 331 kW (450 PS) at 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 530 Nm between 2,300 and 5,000 rpm.

Torque is delivered to the road via an 8-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) dual-clutch transmission. The S Cabriolet boasts a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 306 km/h, while the 4S Cabriolet achieves 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 304 km/h. These acceleration figures are reduced by 0.2 seconds when equipped with the optional Sport Chrono Package.

Retaining the Coupe's Characteristics

Improvements such as a revised layout for the turbochargers and intercoolers, along with new engine mounts, have increased torsional rigidity compared to the previous generation. With the optional Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports chassis, featuring stiffer, shorter springs, high-stiffness front and rear stabilizers, and a 10mm lower ride height, even more neutral handling is achieved.

The exterior design carries over the coupe's signature features: staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels within wider wheel arches, a front end widened by 45mm, a forward-extended front lid, recessed lines above the front windshield, a wide variable rear spoiler, a continuous rear light bar, and an aluminum center section.

The interior design also mirrors the coupe, featuring a dashboard characterized by clean lines and integrated instruments, a central rev counter flanked by frameless freeform displays, and a 10.9-inch center screen housing the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. Additionally, it includes the world's first Wet mode and camera-based warnings and emergency brake assist systems to help avoid collisions with vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Pricing, reservation, and sales start dates for the Japanese market will be announced once determined.
