Downsized and More Powerful Diesel Engine
The newly installed DV5 1.5-liter Clean Diesel is a newly developed engine that will be central to PSA Group's future diesel strategy. Compared to the 1.6-liter DV6 engine in the previous model, despite a displacement downsizing, its maximum output has been increased by 10 ps to 130 ps (96 kW) at 3,750 rpm, delivering rich torque (maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1,750 rpm) across the entire rev range from low to high RPM. Fuel economy, measured by the JC08 mode, has improved by 15.7% from the previous "308 Allure Blue HD"'s 21.0 km/l to 24.3 km/l. It meets the current emission standards (EURO 6.2) and possesses the potential to comply with future, stricter regulations.
Technologically, contributions come from a completely redesigned cylinder head, combustion chamber shape reflecting the design of the Peugeot "908 HDi FAP" which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2009, friction-reducing Diamond-Like Coating treatment, a new 2,000-bar injection system, and a new SCRF exhaust purification system.
The 1.2-liter gasoline engine, with a maximum output of 130 ps (96 kW) at 5,500 rpm and maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm, has also been updated to comply with EURO 6.2, featuring new injectors and an electronically controlled turbocharger.
The transmission is a newly adopted electronically controlled 8-speed automatic, previously seen in the "308 GT Blue HDi." All models, except for the "GTi" with its 6-speed manual, are now equipped with an 8-speed automatic and paddle shifters. Drivers can select from three driving modes: "Eco Mode," which contributes to fuel efficiency through optimized air conditioning and a freewheeling function; "Normal Mode," for optimized shift timing, drivability, and comfort; and "Sport Mode," which increases shift-up points, sharpens throttle response, and modifies steering feel.
Furthermore, Active Cruise Control is now standard on all models. Prices range from 3,049,000 to 3,547,000 yen for diesel models, and 2,839,000 to 3,089,000 yen for gasoline models.
