The Third-Generation "Boxster"Eight months after the Boxster's debut, the new "Cayman" has finally been announced. While sharing design elements like the headlights and side air intakes with the Boxster, which was released earlier, the Cayman's signature flowing roofline continues to an edgy rear end, emphasizing its coupe identity. The slim blade spoiler, which retracts into the rear lid, deploys at a higher position and at a steeper angle compared to the Boxster, clearly differentiating their characters.

The body is lower, longer, wider, and lighter than its predecessor, strongly suggesting improvements in stability and driving performance. Fuel efficiency has been reduced by up to 15 percent according to European fuel consumption standards (NEDC), partly due to a weight reduction of up to 30 kg.

The lineup remains unchanged, starting with the "Cayman" and "Cayman S." The base Cayman model features a 2.7-liter engine delivering 275 ps (202 kW), a 30 ps increase over the previous generation. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has a top speed of 266 km/h.

The "Cayman S," equipped with a 3.4-liter engine that has been downsized by approximately 0.2 liters, similar to the previously announced 911 Carrera S and Boxster S, produces a maximum output of 325 ps (239 kW). It reaches 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 283 km/h.

Both models are available with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed PDK.

Reservations for the new Cayman will begin in Japan as early as December 18. Prices are ¥6,120,000 for the Cayman (¥6,590,000 with PDK) and ¥7,730,000 for the Cayman S (¥8,200,000 with PDK).
