Porsche Adds High-Performance GTS to Boxster and Cayman Models

On October 18, Porsche AG announced the addition of the "718 Boxster" to its mid-engine series, along with the coupe model "718 Cayman" to the lineup. The new models, the 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS, feature enhanced performance with an uprated engine.

Enhanced Equipment and a Powerful 2.5-Liter Boxer Engine

The 2.5-liter boxer engine powering both mid-ship models has been newly developed with intake ducts and an optimized turbocharger, producing a maximum output of 269 kW (365 hp) and peak torque of 430 Nm. This represents an increase of 11 kW (15 hp) and 10 Nm over the 718 Cayman S / 718 Boxster S, and a significant 26 kW (35 hp) and 50-60 Nm over the previous generation's naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine in the "Previous Generation GTS" models.

The GTS models come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission or the optional Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK), along with numerous other features. These include the Sport Chrono package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV-Plus) with a mechanically locking rear differential, and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, which allows for a 10mm lower ride height.

With the Sport Chrono package and PDK, acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes just 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 290 km/h.

On the exterior, the new SportDesign apron at the front and tinted taillights at the rear are striking. Additionally, the front light modules, bi-xenon headlights, GTS logos, rear apron, the standard sports exhaust system's tailpipes at the rear center, and the 20-inch wheels (satin finish) are all finished in black, emphasizing the GTS models' distinct identity.

Inside, the stopwatch, a hallmark of the Sport Chrono package, is centrally located on the dashboard. Similar to other Porsche GTS models, the interior features Sport Seats Plus with Alcantara trim as standard. These seats, adorned with a GTS logo on the headrests, offer 2-way electric adjustment to enhance side support and comfort. Alcantara is also extensively used throughout the interior, including the steering wheel trim, center console, and armrests.

Furthermore, for performance-oriented GTS users, the Porsche Track Precision App (PTPA) is available, allowing for the recording, display, and analysis of driving data via smartphone. It automatically records lap times on circuits by syncing with GPS data and analyzes driving performance, offering insights to improve steering angle, brake pressure, and accelerator pedal position.
