The Arteon first appeared as the "Sport Coupe Concept GTE" at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, and had its world premiere as the "World Premiere as Arteon" at this year's Geneva Motor Show in March.

The body dimensions are 4,865mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,435mm in height, making it slightly larger than the current "Passat". The "fastback style" with a large rear hatch creates a stylish silhouette reminiscent of a coupe, while the long wheelbase of 2,835mm provides a spacious interior.

The powertrain features a 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine producing a maximum output of 206 kW (280 ps) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (35.7 kgm). The transmission is the latest wet-type 7-speed DSG, the same as in the "Golf R". It is also noteworthy that it is driven by all-wheel drive.

Two Trim Levels Available

The design features a hood that covers the upper parts of the wheel arches and horizontal front grille bars integrated with the LED headlights, emphasizing the wide body. The interior adopts an R-Line design with black as the base color. The cockpit incorporates the "Discover Pro" infotainment system with gesture control, as well as an interface including a head-up display.

In terms of safety, "Proactive Occupant Protection," which predicts the possibility of an accident and enables early occupant protection, is standard. Additionally, features such as "Active Bonnet" to mitigate impact on pedestrians in case of an accident are included. The flagship also boasts advanced driver-assistance systems, including those for autonomous driving, and the "Park Assist" parking assistance system.

The price for the entry-grade "R-Line 4MOTION" is 5.49 million yen, and the higher-spec "R-Line 4MOTION Advance" is 5.99 million yen.
