The E-Class's Only Four-Wheel Drive Clean Diesel Model
At a recentMercedes-Maybach Presentationevent, a sneak peek was given of the Mercedes-BenzE-Class All-Terrainmodel. This crossover model combines the high eye-level view and ground clearance of an SUV with the practicality of a station wagon, making it the fourth body type in the "E-Class" series.
With dimensions of 4,950mm in length, 1,860mm in width, and 1,495mm in height, and a minimum ground clearance of 140mm, it is 10mm shorter, 10mm wider, and 30mm taller than the station wagon. The increased ground clearance of 25mm provides SUV-like ground clearance and eye-level view, along with easier entry and exit, all while maintaining a body size that fits into typical parking spaces.
The exterior emphasizes its SUV character with a radiator grille featuring two fins common to the brand's SUV models, silver chrome underbody guards on the front and rear bumpers, black wheel arch covers, and exclusive 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels.
The interior offers a premium cabin ambiance with available Nappa leather seats in three colors – Black, Nut Brown, and Macchiato Beige – and exclusive brushed aluminum trim. The cockpit display, featuring two 12.3-inch wide displays merged under a single glass cover that appears to float in the air, can show various information directly in the driver's field of vision. The steering wheel is equipped with touch control functions, allowing the driver to perform most operations, excluding acceleration and braking, precisely without removing their hands from the wheel by swiping buttons vertically or horizontally.

Clean Diesel Engine Paired with Torque-Vectoring 4WD
The introduced E-Class All-Terrain is available in a single grade: the "Mercedes-Benz E 220 d 4MATIC All-Terrain."
The engine is a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder BlueTEC turbo diesel, producing a maximum output of 143 kW (195 ps) and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The exhaust gas purification system has been improved by directly attaching an sDPF, which integrates a diesel particulate filter (DPF) and an SCR catalytic converter, to the engine block. Additionally, the NANOSLIDE cylinder wall coating reduces friction with the pistons, achieving high output and efficiency. This clean diesel engine is compliant with future RDE (Real Driving Emissions) regulations.
The suspension features the electronically controlled AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension, which automatically adjusts damping characteristics and ride height according to vehicle speed and driving conditions. The ride height can be selected in three stages from 0 to 35mm via a switch.
Additionally, a new "All-Terrain Mode" has been added to the "DYNAMIC SELECT" system, which switches the engine and transmission characteristics. In this mode, the transmission engages an off-road setting, and the vehicle height increases by 20mm at speeds below 35 km/h, enhancing off-road capability on snow and rough terrain.
The transmission is the 9-speed automatic "9G-TRONIC," and the four-wheel-drive system is the variable torque distribution all-weather full-time 4WD "4MATIC." The integration of these systems results in a vehicle with all-around driving performance.
In terms of connectivity, the advanced telematics service "Mercedes me connect" is standard. Furthermore, the "Intelligent Drive" suite of driver assistance systems, including the "DRIVE PILOT" which automatically assists with acceleration, braking, and steering based on conditions such as highways and traffic jams, is standard, achieving a high level of all-around safety. The price is 8.61 million yen.
