Enhancing Rear Seat Comfort
The Maybach brand is now positioned as a sub-brand under the Mercedes-Benz umbrella, alongside Mercedes-AMG which pursues ultimate high performance. Maybach embodies dignity and prestige, pursuing ultimate exclusivity.
The updated Mercedes-Maybach S-Class extends the wheelbase of the S-Class Long by an additional 20cm, dedicating the entire extension to enhancing rear passenger comfort and creating a spacious rear cabin. Both left and right rear seats feature ottomans and executive seats that recline up to 43.5 degrees.
It also includes a rear entertainment system with six massage programs, including a hot stone relaxation function, and 10-inch large-screen monitors and wireless headphones installed on the backs of the front seats, allowing passengers to enjoy movies and TV shows during their journey. Furthermore, various heaters that warm touchpoints like the armrests to a comfortable temperature, cup holders with heating and cooling functions, and an interior meticulously crafted with high-quality materials enhance rear seat comfort.
In addition to reduced wind noise due to excellent aerodynamics, the rear seat achieves world-class quietness for a production car through sound insulation that significantly surrounds the rear seats and special sealing techniques.

Intelligent Drive Functions Also Enhanced
With this minor change, many functions of the "Intelligent Drive" comprehensive sensor system, which constantly monitors the vehicle's surroundings via ultrasonic sensors, have been enhanced. "Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC," which maintains a set distance from the vehicle ahead, now includes an automatic re-acceleration function. If the vehicle stops, it will automatically accelerate to follow the preceding vehicle within 30 seconds without the driver needing to press the accelerator.
"Active Steering Assist" has also been strengthened. Even when lane markings are unclear or undetectable, it can detect surrounding vehicles and guardrails to provide steering assistance. Simultaneously, "Active Lane Change Assist," which assists with lane changes on highways, has been added. When the turn signal is operated, the system confirms that there are no vehicles in the target lane and automatically changes lanes.
Additionally, new functions such as "Evasive Steering Assist" for emergency steering maneuvers and "PRE-SAFE Sound" to protect occupants' ears from the impact sound of a collision have been adopted. "Active Brake Assist (with pedestrian and crossing traffic detection)" is also equipped, which automatically applies emergency braking not only for pedestrians but also for vehicles darting out at intersections.
Connectivity has also been enhanced. In addition to remote lock/unlock via smartphone, services such as a 24-hour concierge are now available.
Remote Parking Assist is also available for the "S 560" and "S 650." This allows for easy entry and exit of occupants by using a smartphone from outside the vehicle to operate parking maneuvers in tight parking spaces or garages, enabling parallel and perpendicular parking, as well as forward and reverse movements.
It is also equipped with "MAGIC BODY CONTROL," which detects unevenness in the road surface ahead and maintains a consistently flat posture for the vehicle. Kintaro Ueno, President and CEO of the company, praised it, saying, "It achieves a comfortable ride quality that allows you to write text in the car as if you were in your office or study."
For rear seat safety, the SRS Beltbag, which inflates the seatbelt to approximately three times its normal volume in case of a collision to reduce impact on the shoulders and arms, and a cushion airbag beneath the seat cushion to prevent "submarining" (sliding under the seatbelt) during reclining, provide maximum protection for occupants.

Maybach Exclusive Exterior
Exterior changes are concentrated on the front and rear. Like the S-Class, it features headlights with three lines characteristic of fiber optics. The front and rear bumpers are adorned with Maybach's signature chrome parts. It also features exclusive 20-inch forged alloy wheels. Additionally, the B-pillars are chromed, and the Maybach emblem is attached to the C-pillars, characteristic of Maybach.
Three grades will be introduced in Japan. One is the rear-wheel-drive Mercedes-Maybach "S 560" with a right-hand drive and a V8 twin-turbo engine (maximum output 469ps, maximum torque 700Nm) that deactivates four cylinders under light load, and a 4MATIC with left-hand drive. Topping the model range is the Mercedes-Maybach "S 650" with a V12 twin-turbo engine (maximum output 630ps, maximum torque 1000Nm).
A surprise was prepared at the venue for the announcement of the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The E-Class All-Terrain, the fourth body type of the E-Class launched on the 26th of this month and Mercedes' first crossover model, was unveiled ahead of its official release. Although details were not disclosed, it appears to be a model worthy of significant attention in the Japanese market.
