On February 1st (Wednesday), Volvo Car Japan introduced the "T2 Kinetic," a new entry-grade model for its compact "V40" series, and began sales.

The "V40" series, announced in 2012, currently offers gasoline anddiesel modelswhich together accounted for about half of Volvo's sales in Japan last year. Now, a new entry-grade model, the "V40 T2 Kinetic," has been added to the V40 gasoline engine lineup.


The powertrain is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder gasoline turbo engine, designated "T2." It produces a maximum output of 90 kW (122 ps) and a maximum torque of 220 Nm (22.4 kgm), paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This differs from the "T3" engine previously featured in the entry-grade model, "T3 Kinetic".

While lowering the price, the "IntelliSafe" suite of over 11 advanced driver-assistance systems, including "Pedestrian Airbag," "Collision Avoidance and Mitigation System with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection," and "Adaptive Cruise Control with Full Speed Range," remains standard, just like in other V40 models.


The body is available in six colors, including Passion Red and Ice White. The price is 2.99 million yen, 400,000 yen less than the previous entry-grade model, the "V40 T3 Kinetic."
