Engine Overhaul Boosts Output and Torque

Positioned as the intermediate between M models and BMW's top-end offerings, the "M Performance Automobiles" lineup now sees its most compact models,M135i"M235i Coupe", receive an engine overhaul. Renamed to "M140i" and "M240i Coupe," they make their debut.

The engine is a new generation 3-liter inline-six, also featured in the base BMW models. Specifications show a 10kW (14ps) increase in maximum output and a 50Nm (5.1kgm) increase in maximum torque compared to the M135i and M235i, evolving to 250kW (340ps) and 500Nm (51.0kgm) respectively.

In European specifications, the 0-100km/h acceleration is recorded at 4.6 seconds. Despite the increased power, the JC08 mode fuel economy has improved by 10 percent to 13.4km/ℓ.

The M140i is equipped with an 8-speed sport automatic transmission. The M240i Coupe offers both a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed sport automatic.
