World First: Touch Control Function Equipped on Steering Wheel
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class boasts cumulative global sales of over 12 million units, forming the core of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. This marks the 10th generation since the W136/191 model's debut in 1947, and the fifth generation under the E-Class name.
New E-ClassThe dimensions of the new E-Class, specifically the "E200 Avantgarde," are 4,930mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,455mm in height. With a wheelbase extended by 65mm compared to the previous generation, its styling embodies Mercedes' latest design language, creating a flowing silhouette from the long hood to the coupe-like roofline and the broad-shouldered rear. The rear end conveys a powerful impression with a wide shoulder line above the wheel arches.
The integrated rear combination lamps, featuring a two-bar design embedded in the body, also signify its place among recent Mercedes models. Additionally, a new reflector structure called "Stardust Effect," which Mercedes describes as evoking the sparkle of stardust, the Milky Way, or jet engine afterburners, has been introduced.
The highlight of the interior design is the pair of high-resolution 12.3-inch wide displays. The cockpit display, with its two screens covered by a single piece of glass, appears to float, serving as a central element that emphasizes the horizontal flow of the interior.
Furthermore, the steering wheel incorporates the world's first Touch Control function. Buttons with integrated touch-sensitive controls, similar to those on smartphones, allow for vertical and horizontal swipe gestures, enabling operation of infotainment functions without the driver needing to remove their hands from the wheel.
New Diesel Engine Added to Lineup
The new E-Class is available with three powertrain options: a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder BlueDIRECT turbo, a 3.5-liter V6 BlueDIRECT turbo, and a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder BlueTEC turbo diesel. The 2.0-liter gasoline engines come in two variants: the "E 200," producing a maximum output of 184ps and peak torque of 30.6kgm, and the "E 250," with 211ps and 35.7kgm. The 3.5-liter gasoline engine in the "E 400 4MATIC Exclusive" delivers a maximum output of 333ps and peak torque of 48.9kgm.
The newly developed 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, replacing the previous 2.2-liter unit, produces a maximum output of 195ps and peak torque of 40.9kgm. The exhaust gas purification system utilizes an "sDPF (DPF with SCR Coating)" that integrates a DPF and SCR catalytic converter directly onto the engine block. This shortened pathway prevents a drop in purification efficiency due to lower exhaust gas temperatures, while also enabling a more compact and lighter system.
All models are equipped with the 9-speed automatic transmission, "9G-TRONIC."
The "E 200 Avantgarde," "E 200 Avantgarde Sport," "E 200 4MATIC Avantgarde," and "E 250 Avantgarde Sport" feature AGILITY CONTROL suspension. In contrast, the "E 400 4MATIC Exclusive" is the first E-Class to offer the multi-chamber AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension. This system allows for three-stage adjustment of suspension stiffness using chambers of varying sizes, with the ability to alter damping characteristics and vehicle height based on road conditions, driving situation, and passenger or cargo load.
In addition to these new-generation powertrains, the new E-Class enhances driving performance, fuel efficiency, and ride comfort through its lightweight body, which actively incorporates aluminum, and its aerodynamics achieving a Cd value of 0.24.
Equipped with the New Generation Driving Assistance System "DRIVE PILOT"
The new E-Class comes standard with a host of advanced driver assistance systems. "DRIVE PILOT," making its debut in a Mercedes-Benz, is an evolution of "Intelligent Drive." It uses cameras and sensors to comprehensively control braking, acceleration, and steering, thereby reducing driver burden. Included within this is "DISTRONIC Active Distance Assist & Steering Pilot," the adaptive cruise control function, which has been updated to include automatic re-engagement in traffic jams and steering control not only within lanes but also by recognizing objects parallel to the road, such as guardrails. Furthermore, "Active Brake Assist" has been enhanced to respond to vehicles emerging at intersections, among various other updated features.
Another new feature for Mercedes-Benz is "Active Lane Change Assist." When driving above 80 km/h, if the turn signal is activated for more than two seconds, the system checks the vehicle's surroundings via sensors. If deemed safe, it will automatically change lanes.
Additionally, the "Active Emergency Stop Assist," a world-first function, has been implemented. If the driver fails to provide input for a certain period while "Steering Pilot" is active, the system issues an audible and visual warning. If there is still no response from the steering, accelerator, or other buttons, it assumes an emergency situation, such as the driver losing consciousness, and gradually reduces vehicle speed until it comes to a complete stop.

The launch dates announced are July 27th for the "E 200 Avantgarde" and "E 200 Avantgarde Sport," with the "E 200 4MATIC Avantgarde," "E 220 d Avantgarde," "E 220 d Avantgarde Sport," "E 250 Avantgarde Sport," and "E 400 4MATIC Exclusive" scheduled for release from October onwards.
