Porsche Begins Reservations for Lightweight Pure Sports Model "911R"

Porsche Japan has announced the "911R," a sports model combining a 4-liter naturally aspirated engine with a 6-speed manual transmission in the series' lightest body. Reservations began on March 2nd. This is a limited edition model, with only 991 units to be produced.

The "911R," for which reservations also began in Japan on March 2nd (Wednesday), is a special limited edition model finished as a lightweight pure sports car, inheriting the spirit of the first-generation "911R" that debuted in 1967.

By using carbon for the hood and fenders, and magnesium for the roof, the center of gravity has been lowered. Furthermore, by omitting the rear bench seat, making the air conditioning optional, and using plastic for the rear and rear side windows, the vehicle weight has been reduced to 1,370kg, which is 50kg less than the weight of the911 GT3 RS" and is the lightest among the current 911 models.

Although the appearance of the 911R has not been significantly altered from the "911 Carrera," its inner workings possess capabilities comparable to a pure sports machine, which Porsche describes as a "wolf in sheep's clothing."

The engine is a 4-liter flat-six naturally aspirated unit derived from the 911 GT3 RS, producing a maximum output of 500 ps at 8,250 rpm and a maximum torque of 460 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The transmission is exclusively a 6-speed manual, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 323 km/h.

The 911R comes standard with a specially tuned rear-axle steering system, a mechanical rear LSD, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) with 410mm front and 390mm rear discs. The wheels feature a center-lock mechanism.

The Porsche Stability Management System (PSM) also has a unique setting, with a function that automatically blips the throttle during downshifts when the button is pressed. Additionally, a single-mass flywheel is available as an option, along with a lift system that raises the front ride height by 30mm for convenient daily driving.

The interior features carbon full bucket seats, a dedicated 360mm diameter sports steering wheel, carbon trim, and a serial number plate unique to this limited edition model.

The 911R is a limited edition model, with only 991 units to be produced. Both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations are available, and the price is set at 26.29 million yen.
