The Most Powerful GTI Ever

The "Golf GTI Clubsport" made its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September. The "most powerful GTI ever," inheriting the tradition of the "Golf GTI" that debuted 40 years ago as the epitome of the hot hatch, will go on sale in Japan from around mid-2016.

Its power is particularly noteworthy. The engine, further refined from the 2.0-liter TSI turbo found in the Golf GTI, delivers a maximum output of 195kW (265ps), the highest in its history. Furthermore, by using the power boost function, engine output can be increased by 10 percent to over 290ps. Simultaneously, the maximum torque also increases from 350Nm to 380Nm.

The transmission is available as a 6-speed manual, with an optional 6-speed DSG. The 0-100km/h acceleration time is 6.0 seconds for the manual and an even faster 5.9 seconds for the DSG, with a top speed of 250km/h.

The exterior features a newly designed front bumper. This increases airflow to the engine and further enhances downforce at the front, boasting performance comparable to a race car. Additionally, a model-exclusive rear diffuser adds presence, accentuating its sporty appearance.

The interior adopts a racy design with striking red stitching and accents. It also features sporty seats with the GTI logo. The car comes standard with newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels, with 19-inch options available, lending it a dynamic impression.

While sales numbers and pricing for the Japanese specifications are yet to be determined, the Golf GTI Clubsport is slated for release around mid-2016. We await further details.
