The SLK 55 AMG is finally released in Japan

Mercedes-BenzMercedes-Benz Japan Co., Ltd. announced that it will release the high-performance model of the "SLK Class" 2-seater open-top car, the "SLK 55 AMG" on May 9th. Deliveries are scheduled to begin around June.

The highlight is the newly developed engine and improved fuel efficiency

The new "SLK 55 AMG" being released boasts approximately 17% higher maximum output and 6% higher maximum torque compared to the previous model.Newly developed 5.5-liter V8 direct-injection engineis installed. By adopting features such as a cylinder deactivation system and ECO start-stop function, fuel efficiency has been improved by 70 percent compared to the previous generation.

The exterior features AMG-specific radiator grille, front bumper, and LED driving lights on the front, creating a sharp image.

The interior features trim made of brushed aluminum, a dedicated IWC-designed analog clock in the center of the dashboard, and high-quality Nappa leather for the AMG sports seats.

The "ECO" mark is displayed on the main menu when the ECO start-stop function is active, a first for the "SLK 55 AMG". In other sport modes and manual mode, this start-stop function is always off. Manual deactivation is also possible in "C" mode.

The AMG Speedshift PLUS 7G-TRONIC, with its three driving program modes, features an automatic blipping function during downshifts. During upshifts under heavy load, shift times are shortened by controlling ignition and fuel injection. Furthermore, according to Mercedes-Benz, in four-cylinder mode, comfort is enhanced by minimizing vibrations.

The new AMG sports exhaust system with integrated exhaust flaps provides a sound tailored to each scene, offering an emotional experience during sporty driving and a more subdued tone during cruising. This is a first for AMG. Flaps are incorporated into each of the two rear mufflers, and the control logic changes based on accelerator pedal input and engine speed.

In terms of suspension, the AMG sports suspension with shock absorbers offering excellent damping characteristics, combined with torque vectoring brakes that enhance vehicle stability during cornering and direct steering that varies the gear ratio according to steering angle, achieves superior dynamic performance and agile handling.

Furthermore, with the optional AMG Handling Package, dynamic performance is further enhanced by a more aggressively tuned AMG sports suspension and a limited-slip differential that improves cornering performance. The interior is further elevated by the addition of an AMG performance steering wheel with Alcantara and AMG carbon interior trim.
