The 265ps Boxster and 315ps Boxster S
The new Boxster's engine displacement has been reduced from the current 2.9 liters to 2.7 liters, while the maximum output increases by 10ps to 265ps (195kW). The Boxster S will continue to be powered by a 3.4-liter engine, with a maximum output of 315ps (232kW). The transmission options are a newly developed 6-speed manual or a 7-speed PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) dual-clutch transmission.
From a standstill to 100 km/h, the Boxster with PDK reaches the mark in 5.7 seconds, or 5.5 seconds when the Sport Chrono package is selected and the Sport+ mode is engaged. Similarly, the Boxster S achieves it in 5.0 seconds, shortened to 4.8 seconds in Sport+ mode.
Furthermore, as a social responsibility that even sports car manufacturers cannot ignore, fuel efficiency has also been improved. In the Boxster, while the engine itself has been downsized, various systems contribute to this improvement. These include a thermal management system that finely controls the temperature of various components, such as shortening warm-up times during cold starts and enhancing cooling performance during spirited driving; Direct Fuel Injection (DFI); an idling stop function called engine start-stop; and an energy regeneration system. These advancements result in a fuel economy improvement of up to 16%. Additionally, PDK models feature a coasting mode. This mechanism achieves fuel savings by automatically shifting to neutral when the accelerator is released, eliminating engine and transmission resistance and thus creating a gliding state. Specifically, in the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) urban-suburban combined mode, the Boxster with PDK achieves 7.7 L/100km (approximately 13.0 km/L), and the Boxster S with PDK achieves 8.0 L/100km (approximately 12.5 km/L).
Prices in Japan were announced as 5.84 million yen for the Boxster MT, 6.31 million yen for the PDK version, 7.27 million yen for the Boxster S MT, and 7.74 million yen for the PDK version.
