A V12 Unit with Even More Power
While the SL63 AMG, which also features AMG tuning for high performance within the SL-Class lineup,SL63 AMGis equipped with a 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine called the M157, the new SL65 AMG announced this time adopts the 6-liter V12 twin-turbo engine developed by AMG based on the M275 engine, as in the previous generation. This engine boasted a maximum output of 450 kW in the previous generation, but has now been further enhanced to 463 kW (630 ps) at 4,800-5,400 rpm. The maximum torque remains 1,000 Nm, the same as the previous generation, to prevent gearbox wear. This is generated between 2,300-4,300 rpm.
This M275 AMG engine is housed in the all-aluminum body shell of the new SL-Class, which achieves both weight reduction and high rigidity simultaneously. As a result, the new SL65 AMG, weighing 170 kg less than its predecessor, achieves a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 4 seconds and a 0-200 km/h acceleration of 11.8 seconds.
In addition to this body weight reduction, the new SL65 AMG features the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission, a 7-speed AT replacing the previous 5-speed AT, a start/stop function, improved engine efficiency, and optimized alternator management. These improvements result in a 17% reduction in fuel consumption compared to the previous model, achieving 11.6 L/100 km. It has become the fastest model in the AMG brand lineup, characterized by its front face with twin blades – two lines between the radiator grille.
Market launch in Germany begins in September. Prices start from 236,334 euros.
