A Thorough Comparison Across Five Categories

On one hand, the new BMW M5, which replaces its traditional 5-liter V10 naturally aspirated engine with a 4.4-liter V8 direct-injection turbo. On the other, the Nissan GT-R, Japan's pride and joy in the world of super sports cars. The British automotive magazine "AUTOCAR" has released a comparative test of these two vehicles—a FR sports sedan and a 2-door coupe 4WD—on YouTube.

While these cars don't typically fall into the same category, "AUTOCAR" notes their common ground: both boast 550hp and a price tag of £75,000, with sharp performance guaranteed. With that in mind, they decided to pit them against each other. Let's introduce this intriguing showdown.

The test driver for this comparison is none other than Steve Sutcliffe, a familiar face as the magazine's editor-in-chief. Five distinct tests were prepared for this head-to-head. Specifically, Test 1 measured 0-200 mph acceleration time, Test 2 was a lap time on a tight winding road, Test 3 was braking from 100 km/h, Test 4 focused on cornering, and the final test evaluated ride comfort.

GT-R Triumphs in Every Stage

First, let's look at acceleration in Test 1. With the M5 being rear-wheel drive and the GT-R all-wheel drive, the test was conducted under the condition that the GT-R would not use its launch system, giving the M5 a potential advantage. The result? A clear victory for the GT-R.

The GT-R also emerged victorious in Test 2. "If you look closely at the speedometer, you'll see that the GT-R outperforms the M5 in every scene. Its corner entry and exit acceleration, as well as its speed on the straights, are outstanding," commented Sutcliffe, who was behind the wheel.

In the braking test, the GT-R was again overwhelmingly superior. After testing the M5, Sutcliffe remarked, "Incredible... it's impossible for the GT-R to stop any faster than this," indicating the M5's brakes are also quite capable. However, as soon as he tested the GT-R, he exclaimed, "Unbelievable braking performance. It's so good it makes you feel a bit sick," praising the GT-R's brakes.

In the cornering test, as you can see, the GT-R's cornering G-force significantly surpassed that of the M5. In his final impression, Sutcliffe stated, "I love the new M5... but the GT-R is in a different league... I genuinely believe the GT-R comes from another planet. At the very least, it's definitely from a different planet than the M5." It seems the M5 faced a formidable opponent in this contest.
