Latest "7G-TRONIC PLUS" Transmission Adopted

The R-Class is a crossover model featuring three rows of seats, a spacious interior for seven occupants, and excellent off-road capability thanks to its full-time four-wheel-drive system, "4MATIC." Since its introduction in Japan in 2006, this model has garnered popularity for its unique styling that blends luxury with the appeal of a station wagon, minivan, and SUV. It now features a new engine that harnesses BlueDirect technology, a form of direct injection.

This 3.5-liter V6 direct injection engine utilizes a newly developed fuel injection system to achieve high combustion efficiency, output, and torque. It controls various combustion modes, including stratified charge (lean burn) based on engine load, homogeneous charge at the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, and a combination of both. Compared to the previous model, maximum output has increased by 25 kW (34 ps) to 225 kW (306 ps) at 6,500 rpm, and maximum torque is up by 20 Nm to 370 Nm (37.7 kgm) at 3,500-5,250 rpm.

Furthermore, it is equipped with the latest high-efficiency "7G-TRONIC PLUS" 7-speed automatic transmission. A newly designed torque converter, hydraulic circuit, and low-viscosity transmission fluid reduce power loss, enabling dynamic response and quiet, smooth gear changes with low noise and vibration.

Combined with the BlueDirect technology engine, which has been optimized for efficiency and reduced weight, fuel economy has improved by approximately 10 percent. Achieving 8.8 km/ℓ in the JC08 mode, it qualifies for eco-car tax reductions (75% reduction in weight tax and acquisition tax) and the Green Tax System (50% reduction in the following year's automobile tax). It is also slated to be eligible for eco-car subsidies.

Inside, the seat material has been upgraded from a combination of fabric and artificial leather to "ARTICO man-made leather," enhancing the interior's sense of quality.
