Significantly Lighter Body Accompanies Expansion

The new Boxster, touted as the first comprehensive model change in the history of the Boxster, is now in its third generation and shows significant changes in body size. While the overall height has been reduced by 12mm, the length has increased by 32mm, and the wheelbase is 60mm longer. Despite the increased body size, the adoption of body panels precisely combining aluminum and steel has reportedly achieved significant weight reduction.

Center Console Evokes Latest 911 and Panamera

The exterior design, with its shorter overhangs and a windshield moved further forward, creates a silhouette that emphasizes width. The larger air intakes and sculpted side lines enhance its sharp and sporty image. The rear, reminiscent of the mid-engined sports car '718 RS 60 Spyder' that competed in endurance races and hill climbs in the 1960s, retains the Boxster's characteristic rounded form. The spoiler is wider and more stylish, with the taillights designed to sandwich it. The electric soft top opens and closes in approximately 9 seconds and can be operated while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h.

Inside, the most striking feature is the center console that slopes forward, similar to the latest 911 and Panamera. Designed with driver usability as the top priority, it shortens the distance between the steering wheel and shift lever, offering improved ergonomics.

Improved Performance and Environmental Efficiency

Both the Boxster and Boxster S are powered by a 6-cylinder boxer engine featuring Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) and VarioCam Plus.

In the case of the Boxster, although the displacement has been reduced by approximately 200cc to 2.7 liters, the maximum output is 10 ps higher at 265 ps (195 kW) at 6,700 rpm, and the maximum torque is 10 Nm lower at 280 Nm at 4,500-6,500 rpm. The standard 6-speed manual transmission achieves 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 264 km/h, while the optional PDK achieves 5.7 seconds and 262 km/h.

For the Boxster S, the displacement remains the same, but the maximum output is increased by 5 ps to 315 ps (232 kW) at 6,700 rpm, and the maximum torque is 360 Nm at 4,500-5,800 rpm. Acceleration performance for the manual transmission is 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 279 km/h, while the PDK version achieves 5.0 seconds and 277 km/h.

Furthermore, this new Boxster features an engine auto start/stop function, and the PDK models include a coasting mode, resulting in a 15 percent improvement in fuel efficiency. The PDK version of the Boxster achieves an excellent 7.7 L/100km, and the PDK version of the Boxster S achieves 8.0 L/100km.

Sales timing and pricing are currently undecided. Following the new 911, another highly anticipated model has already emerged from Porsche.
