New Jaguar XF Lands in Japan


Jaguar Land Rover Japan announced the second-generation new XF in Japan on September 25, and began accepting orders nationwide on the same day. At the announcement event, Jaguar ambassador Kei Nishikori also attended and spoke about its appeal.

World-premiered at this year's New York Auto Show in April, and just before that,Thames River Tightrope PerformanceJaguar's new XF, which showcased a tightrope performance across the Thames, has already landed in Japan.


The second-generation new XF uses aluminum for 75 percent of its monocoque,First-generation XFachieving a weight reduction of 190 kg compared to the first-generation XF. At the same time, torsional rigidity has been improved by 28 percent. The suspension features double wishbones at the front and an integral link system at the rear. The front-rear weight distribution is meticulously set at 50:50, promising a comfortable ride and handling.


The body dimensions are 4,965mm in length, a 10mm reduction from the previous model, and 1,455mm in height, a 5mm reduction. However, the wheelbase has been extended by 50mm to 2,960mm. The cabin has been enlarged, with particularly notable increases in rear legroom by 15mm, knee room by 24mm, and headroom by 27mm.

The powertrain lineup includes three gasoline engines: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder producing 240ps, a 3.0-liter V6 producing 340ps, and another 3.0-liter V6 producing 380ps. Additionally, it is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder Ingenium diesel turbo, designed and manufactured entirely by Jaguar Land Rover. All powertrains are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.


The front design is the latest Jaguar signature, shared with the XF and the recently announcedF-PACEmodel. Full LED headlights with adaptive functionality, including the 'J' blade that frames the lower edge, are standard. Features Inherited from Range Rover


Inside, the instrumental cluster features a 12.3-inch TFT display. It not only shows meters with four visual themes but also allows for information to be displayed prominently, such as navigation, adapting to the driver's needs.


The center console houses a 10.2-inch capacitive touchscreen for the infotainment system. Named 'InControl Touch Pro,' the system allows for intuitive operation through touch, swipe, and pinch gestures, similar to smartphones and tablets.

Driving assistance features include adaptive cruise control that follows the vehicle ahead, autonomous emergency braking to avoid or mitigate collisions, and lane keep assist that warns or corrects steering when deviating from the lane. Furthermore, it is equipped with All Surface Progress Control, utilizing technology from its sister brand, Land Rover. This is an off-road driving assist function that automatically controls the accelerator and brakes to maintain a set speed between 3.6 km/h and 30 km/h, even on slippery surfaces, allowing the driver to navigate safely with steering input alone.


Professional tennis player Kei Nishikori, an ambassador for Jaguar, also took the stage at the announcement event held in Tokyo.Nishikori, who himself owns an F-TYPEspoke about the appeal of Jaguar, describing it as a car with a wonderful sound and power that makes him forget about tennis and get absorbed in driving. Regarding the new XF, he expressed his eagerness to drive it, citing its sophisticated design, luxurious atmosphere, and the expectation of agile movement and handling due to its class-leading lightness.


The grade structure and prices are as follows: the 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder 'XF Pure' is ¥5.98 million, and the 'XF Prestige' with the same engine and more luxurious equipment is ¥6.68 million. The 3.0-liter V6 engines are priced at ¥9.69 million for the sport-oriented 'XF R-Sport,' ¥10.27 million for the luxury-oriented 'XF Portfolio,' and ¥11.05 million for the 'XF S,' the most powerful and sporty model with 380ps. The diesel engine is exclusively a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, with the basic 'XF Pure' priced at ¥6.35 million and the luxurious 'Prestige' at ¥6.93 million.
