Expanded to a More Generous Body Size
The "MINI Clubman," introduced in 2007, was a shooting brake model characterized by its expanded luggage space and split rear doors.MINIIt underwent a full model change announced in June this year, evolving into its second generation.
While MINI targets the "premium small compact segment," the new model is developed for the segment above it, the "premium compact segment." By increasing its body size, rear seat comfort has been enhanced.
Compared to the previous model, the new dimensions are 290mm longer and 115mm wider, resulting in a size of 4,270mm long, 1,800mm wide, and 1,470mm high, approaching that of BMW's compact hatchback model, the1 Series.
The distinctive split rear doors have been retained, but the side profile now features a conventional, symmetrical five-door design. While incorporating MINI's iconic round headlights and hexagonal grille, the overall impression conveys a superior sense of space, leveraging the increased width. Finished in an elegant Pure Burgundy Metallic, it exudes a more refined quality, positioning it as a model for discerning adults.
The interior, while sharing common elements with other MINI models, has been newly designed specifically for the Clubman. A unique design touch is the decorative frame that encircles the upper part of the wide dashboard. The extensive use of chrome and high-gloss finishes further enhances the sense of quality. The increased dimensions have led to a significantly more spacious and comfortable cabin, particularly for rear passengers. The trunk space offers 360 liters even with five occupants.
The powertrain is exclusively gasoline. Two options are available: a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine producing 136ps for the Cooper, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine producing 192ps for the Cooper S, matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The introduction of an 8-speed automatic is a first for MINI.
This contributes significantly not only to drivability but also to improved fuel efficiency, with the Cooper achieving 17.1 km/l and the powerful Cooper S recording 16.6 km/l.
The model lineup and pricing are ¥3.44 million for the Cooper and ¥3.84 million for the Cooper S. Standard equipment for both includes a navigation system with an 8.8-inch wide color display, dual-zone automatic climate control, MINI Connected, 17-inch alloy wheels, Servotronic, engine auto start/stop function, and interior/exterior chrome accents. Additionally, the Cooper S features LED headlights, Performance Control, and sports seats.
Reservations have already begun, with sales commencing on November 7.
