An Open-Top Model Revealed Sooner Than Expected

The Lamborghini Huracan, announced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014, has been joined by an open-top version, the Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 Spyder, which made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Huracan LP640-4 Spyder is a luxurious model that combines the performance of the coupe with the thrill of open-air driving. Its exterior, featuring a new lightweight soft top, forms a silhouette distinct from the coupe, making it identifiable as a Spyder at a glance even when closed. The overall height is kept low at 1180mm, just 15mm more than the coupe, partly due to the adoption of an automatic pop-up safety bar.

The new lightweight soft top is electro-hydraulically operated and can be opened in just 17 seconds at speeds below 50 km/h. It is available in three colors: black, brown, and red. The movable rear window at the rear of the cabin acts as a wind deflector when closed, and when stowed, it amplifies the V10 sound roaring into the cabin, exhilarating the driver.

Cabin quietness while driving has also been improved. A removable windshield on the side of the body reduces aerodynamic vibrations during driving, ensuring conversation is possible even at high speeds. Furthermore, aerodynamic improvements have eliminated the need for the wind deflector and spoiler previously located above the windshield, resulting in a simpler and more elegant open-top style.

The powertrain features a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine, boasting the same specifications as the coupe with a maximum output of 610 hp at 8250 rpm and a peak torque of 560 Nm at 6500 rpm.

It is equipped with new technologies such as the "Stop & Start System" and "Cylinder on Demand," adopted from the 2016 model year of the Huracan. This is complemented by a newly updated electronic all-wheel-drive system for improved drivability. Performance figures are impressive, with a top speed of 324 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.4 seconds, rivaling the coupe.

CEO Stephan Winkelmann

Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, expressed strong confidence in the new model's perfection, stating, "We expect it to surpass the Gallardo Spyder, Lamborghini's most successful open-top model to date, in every aspect."

The price in Japan is 30.25 million yen, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the spring of 2016.
