The Sharan Evolves with Enhanced Engine and Safety Features

Volkswagen Group Japan announced on the 15th the launch of the 7-seater MPV "Sharan," which has undergone a model change for the first time in four years. Sales have commenced.

Starting from ¥3.6 Million for the Entry Grade

The Sharan, already updated in its home market, has now arrived in Japan. While offered as a 5-seater in Europe and other regions, Japan will exclusively feature the 7-seater configuration. The lineup has also been revised with this model change. In addition to the existing "TSI Comfortline" and "TSI Highline," a new entry-level model, the "TSI Trendline," has joined the ranks with a strategic price tag of ¥3.6 million.

While only gasoline engines will be available in Japan, this model change introduces a newly developed 1.4-liter turbocharged "TSI engine." It delivers a maximum output of 110kW (150ps) and a torque of 250Nm (25.5kgm), an increase of 10Nm. Fuel efficiency has also improved by 11 percent, achieving 15.0km/ℓ.

Furthermore, safety features have been enhanced. The "Front Assist" pre-collision braking system, which mitigates or avoids damage from potential collisions through automatic braking, and the "Post Collision Brake System," which reduces secondary damage through automatic braking in the event of a collision or rear-end impact, are now standard on all models.

Additionally, the top-tier "Highline" grade comes standard with Lane Assist and the "Rear Traffic Alert" system with collision mitigation braking for reversing. The "Integrated Child Seat," a first for Volkswagen, can also be selected.

The body colors include six options, featuring the new Hudson Bay Blue Metallic. Pricing for the entry-grade "Trendline" is ¥3.6 million, the "Comfortline" is ¥3.94 million, and the "Highline" is ¥4.63 million.
