Expanded Color Palette and Updated Engine
Volkswagen will partially revise its open-top model, the Golf, as the 2016 model and unveil it at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The exterior features new front and rear bumpers and side sills, emphasizing a sportier image.
A notable feature is the rich variety of body color options. The optional palette includes six new colors: Dark Moss Green Metallic, Bilberry Blue, Night Blue Metallic, Honey Orange Metallic, and Rising Blue Metallic, along with Dark Iron Grey Metallic as a dedicated color for the Golf GTI Cabriolet. In early summer 2016, three more new colors—Walnut, Deep Black, and Pure White—are planned to be added, bringing the total to 14 distinct shades to choose from.
Additionally, Deep Blue and Black are available as bonnet paint colors. Furthermore, not only the paint but also the soft top gains a new color, Garnet Red, significantly expanding the choices for color variations. Six new designs for alloy wheels will also be offered in 16, 17, and 18-inch sizes.
The interior features a new steering wheel, a redesigned interior trim, and new color options for the leather seats.
The engine complies with Euro 6 standards, offering improved fuel efficiency and enhanced engine power. Both direct-injection turbo gasoline (TSI) and diesel (TDI) engines are available. The TSI gasoline engines offer four output levels: 77kW (105ps), 92kW (125ps), and 110kW (150ps), with an additional 162kW (220ps) exclusively for the GTI Cabriolet. The 220ps engine accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, an improvement of 0.4 seconds over the previous 210ps engine's 7.3 seconds. Meanwhile, fuel consumption is 6.5 L/100 km (NEDC), a 15 percent reduction in consumption compared to the previous model.
The new generation diesel engines come in two variants: 81kW/110ps and 110kW/150ps. The 2.0 TDI, the most powerful diesel variant, sees a 10ps increase to 150ps and a 20Nm torque boost to 340Nm compared to its predecessor. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h has been reduced from 9.7 seconds to 9.2 seconds. Despite the increased power, average fuel consumption has improved by 0.5 L/100 km, now standing at 4.6 L/100 km.
The infotainment system includes "AppConnect," which supports smartphone interfaces such as "MirrorLink," Google's "Android Auto," and Apple's "CarPlay."
The new Golf Cabriolet will be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, with deliveries in Europe scheduled to begin in November 2015.
