SUV-look "Cross up!" Arrives in Japan

Volkswagen Group Japan announced on August 18 the introduction of the "Cross up!", an SUV-styled model of the small car "up!". Sales began the same day.

The "up!" with an Active Look

Based on the concept model announced at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show,Cross up!which was released in Europe in 2013,released in Europe since 2013the "Cross up!", with its SUV-inspired interior and exterior, has now arrived in Japan.

The Cross up!, which is the top-grade model based on the "high up!" in the "up!" lineup,up!features exclusive front and rear parts with black surrounds and roof rails, creating an active atmosphere. It is available in five body colors, including Tornado Red, Candy White, and Blueberry Metallic. For all colors, the front and rear bumpers, roof rails, and door mirrors are accented in silver. It also features 16-inch alloy wheels and a 10mm increase in ride height compared to the standard "up!".

The engine is the same 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine as the base model, producing a maximum output of 55kW (75ps) and a maximum torque of 95Nm (9.7kgm). The transmission is also Volkswagen's 5-speed single-clutch automated manual system, called "ASG". Combined with an idling stop and brake energy regeneration system, it achieves a JC08 mode fuel economy of 25.2 km/l.

The interior is equipped with the same leather steering wheel and leather handbrake as the base "high up!". The interior also features a pop-up space created by the dashboard pad, which comes in red, black, or dark silver, coordinated with the body color.

In addition, safety features such as City Emergency Brake for collision avoidance are standard, as with the base "high up!".

The price is set at 1.94 million yen, a strategic price point under 2 million yen, which is only 50,000 yen more than the 4-door top-grade model "high up!".
