In December 2013,Full Model Changeand, arrived in Japan last Julythe new "C-Class Coupe," based on the "C-Class," is finally here.
By using lightweight alloys such as aluminum, the new body has improved lightness and crash safety. Compared to the previous generation, it has been extended by 95mm in length and 40mm in width. The wheelbase has also been lengthened by 80mm, contributing to increased interior space. The flowing silhouette, with its long front hood characteristic of a coupe, achieves a drag coefficient of 0.26. The rear end is styled after the latest Mercedes coupe family, topped by theS-Class Coupe"S-Class Coupe."
Six engine variations will be available at launch. All are the latest units that comply with Europe's Euro 6 environmental standards, and fuel efficiency is said to have improved by 20 percent compared to the previous generation.
In gasoline engines, the entry-level model is the "C 180" with a 1.6-liter inline-4 engine producing a maximum output of 115 kW (156 hp). There are three other 2.0-liter inline-4 models with different outputs: the "C 200" at 135 kW (184 hp), the "C 250" at 115 kW (211 hp), and the "C 300" at 180 kW (245 hp). Additionally, two 4-cylinder diesel engines equipped with an SCR exhaust gas purification system are offered, with maximum outputs of 125 kW and 150 kW.
The suspension features a 4-link setup at the front and a 5-link setup at the rear. Combined with the lightweight, high-rigidity body, this contributes to sporty agility and high stability. Optional suspensions include the sporty Comfort Agility Control suspension and a sports suspension with reinforced springs and dampers, paired with the Direct Steer system.
Like the sedan and wagon, the "AIRMATIC" air suspension system is also available.
Functions that comprehensively assist driving and provide safety support by analyzing data from cameras and sensors are also abundant, similar to the latest C-Class. Automatic braking up to speeds of 200 km/h is standard. Furthermore, many features are available as options, including the Distronic Plus cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, Lane Keeping Assist to prevent lane departure, and Active Parking Assist for semi-automatic parking.
In addition, numerous features consistent with the C-Class are also offered, such as the latest multimedia system with online service support and smartphone integration, and an air conditioning system that automatically switches to recirculation mode when entering a tunnel, linked to the navigation system.
Deliveries of the new C-Class Coupe are scheduled to begin in Europe this December.
