Lexus's First FR Turbo Model

Last year, the turbo engine, which was Lexus's first, was installed in the compact SUV, NXNX. This engine is now also adopted for the "IS" as the IS200t. While the NX200t is available in AWD or FF configurations, the "RX200t" was not introduced in Japan, making the IS200t Lexus's first turbo model for an FR vehicle.

The IS200t is powered by a 1,998cc inline four-cylinder engine. It features a twin-scroll turbocharger, the Dual VVT-iW system with an expanded variable valve timing range, and the D-4ST direct injection system optimized for turbocharging. It produces a maximum output of 180 kW (245 ps) at 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (35.7 kgm) across a wide range from a low 1,650 rpm up to 4,400 rpm, characteristic of a turbocharged engine. Its fuel efficiency is also the best among non-hybrid models, at 13.2 km/ℓ.

The transmission is an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic, the 8-Speed SPDS. Furthermore, the front suspension is equipped with performance dampers to enhance handling stability. These performance dampers will also become standard equipment on the V6 naturally aspirated engine-equipped IS300 starting now.

To coincide with the arrival of the IS200t, the existing hybrid grade, IS300h, will gain a four-wheel-drive model, the IS300h AWD. This is reportedly to meet demand in snowy and cold regions.

In addition, the exterior color options have been expanded with the addition of F SPORT exclusive colors Heat Blue Contrast Layering, Sonic Quartz, and Madder Red, bringing the total to 10 choices.

The price for the newly added IS200t ranges from 4,544,000 to 5,087,000 yen. The IS300h AWD is priced from 4,999,000 to 5,971,000 yen. Both models will be available starting August 3rd.
