A Concours of Automotive Elegance and Grace
Held in Pebble Beach, California, the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has been an international automotive exhibition since 1950. It features not only historic and new models preserved by manufacturers but also brings together passionate classic car collectors who showcase their prized vehicles. Over the course of a week, events include test drives, auctions, and a concours competition celebrating automotive beauty.
Mercedes-Benz has planned an exhibition in a dedicated pavilion at the concours venue, aligning with this year's theme, "125 Years of the Automobile." The display traces the evolution of automobiles chronologically, beginning with a replica of the 1886 "Patent-Motorwagen," the first gasoline automobile. It continues with the "American Mercedes" built in America in 1905, and a racing car developed by Wilhelm Maybach in 1906. This model featured a cutting-edge six-cylinder engine for its time, equipped with an overhead camshaft (OHC), overhead valves (OHV), and a high-voltage dual spark plug ignition system. Its low-slung frame design cemented its place in motorsport history.
Showcasing the "Now" of Mercedes-Benz
Other highlights include the 1909 "Blitzen Benz," capable of 200 ps and a top speed of 200 km/h; the "SSK," which achieved great success in international races during the 1920s and 30s; the 1954 "300 SL"; the 1958 "220 SE"; and the 1969 "Mercedes-Benz 600."
Additionally, "Aesthetics 125!," a sculpture that boldly expresses the aesthetic of the modern Mercedes brand, will be featured alongsidethe SLS AMG Roadster, scheduled for launch in autumn 2011,andthe "Concept A-Class," unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show in April.Furthermore, the "F-Cell Roadster," created with the concept "What if Carl Benz had used a fuel cell in the Patent-Motorwagen?", will also be on display.
The history of Mercedes-Benz is, in essence, the history of the automobile itself. This exhibition promises a captivating journey through legendary vehicles that have left a significant mark, offering a glimpse into the future of automotive innovation.
