Driving Performance Exceeds Expectations
Already Released in JapanDS3Following theDS4,DS5, Citroën is expanding its lineup. The DS4, the second model in the DS series, is rumored to be introduced to Japan this autumn. In the UK, where it has already landed, the automotive magazine 'Fifth Gear' has test-driven it and released a video on YouTube.
Initially, the evaluation of the exterior design was somewhat harsh. While the car is marketed as a 'crossover,' the review stated, 'It looks like the hydropneumatic suspension has broken and stopped at a high position,' a rather severe critique. Of course, in reality, only C5 grades and above are currently equipped with hydropneumatic suspension in Citroën vehicles, so the DS4 uses conventional coil springs.
However, once driving, the evaluation took a complete turn. The driving experience is exceptionally refined. Instead of the 'expected tall-car-like ride,' the cornering posture is remarkably flat, allowing for precise control. The steering feel is surprisingly good, with just the right amount of weight, enabling straight-line driving without much effort. The reviewer also appreciated the active feedback from the road.

The engine lineup offers a choice of two gasoline and three diesel options. The top-grade THP200 engine model achieves 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds and a fuel economy of approximately 15.6 km/l.
The interior was praised as luxurious for a car in the £180,000-£240,000 price range (approximately ¥2.35-3.15 million). The finish of the details, such as the switches, was described as excellent, comparable to Volkswagen, with the comment, 'Citroën seems to understand what luxury is.'
Compared to its perceived rival,MINI Countryman (Japanese name: Crossover), the ride is not as stiff, and the interior finish is superior. While it lacks the nimble driving feel of its DS series sibling, the DS3, this is not necessarily a negative point. In conclusion, the reviewer stated, 'Modern. In a word, superb.'
