The New C4 Arrives in Japan

Citroën Japan has announced that the mid-range hatchback "NEW C4" will go on sale from July 1st through its nationwide dealer network.

Available in "Seduction" and "Exclusive" Trims

The C4, first unveiled in 2005 and having sold over one million units worldwide, has undergone a full model change. It was revealed at last year's Paris Motor Show, with an announcement that sales were imminent, so many may have been eagerly anticipating its arrival.

The new C4 will be offered in two models: the "C4 Seduction" and the "C4 Exclusive."

The "Seduction" is powered by a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine paired with a highly efficient new torque converter 4-speed automatic transmission. It produces a maximum output of 88kW (120ps) at 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 160Nm (16.3kgm) at 4,250rpm. The "Exclusive" features a 1.6-liter twin-scroll turbo engine combined with a 6-speed EGS (Electronic Gearbox System), delivering a maximum output of 115kW (156ps) at 6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 240Nm (24.5kgm) between 1,400-3,500rpm.

Citroën's signature sophisticated chassis technology remains, with MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam suspension at the rear, achieving a balance of supple ride comfort and precise, natural handling. Furthermore, body weight reduction through laser welding and synergy with new Michelin tires contribute to improved fuel efficiency. The "Seduction" sees a 6% improvement to 12.1 km/ℓ in JC08 mode, while the "Exclusive" achieves a remarkable 25% improvement to 13.1 km/ℓ.

A Wealth of Safety Features

Safety equipment is also comprehensive, earning the highest rating of 5 stars in the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). The "Exclusive" model comes standard with features such as a Blind Spot Monitoring System, which uses ultrasonic sensors to detect vehicles in the rear blind spots and alerts the driver via a lamp in the door mirror, front and rear sonar, and Intelligent Traction Control to optimize wheel grip on slippery surfaces. Additionally, the "Exclusive" includes a "Parking Space Sensor" that indicates whether there is enough space for parallel parking, a feature perhaps uniquely suited to Paris with its prevalent street parking.

Refined Styling and Interior

The styling has been completely redesigned, following the lineage of the "C5" and "C3," with a clear emphasis on strength and elegance. A large front grille, a trend in recent years, has been adopted, giving the front mask a sharp expression with the new "double chevron emblem." The tailgate features clean lines, creating a sophisticated finish.

The body dimensions have increased slightly from the previous model: 35mm longer, 15mm wider, and 10mm taller, resulting in dimensions of 4,330mm in length, 1,790mm in width, and 1,490mm in height. Despite these minimal increases in size, interior space has been significantly expanded. Notably, the luggage compartment offers a class-leading 380 liters of space.

Exclusive

The interior exudes a premium feel, with the dashboard featuring a new soft-touch material called "Slash Skin," creating a sense of quality befitting a higher class. The "Exclusive" model is also equipped with comfort features such as a 1.3 square meter panoramic glass roof and active lumbar support to enhance comfort on long drives.

Pricing is set at 2.56 million yen for the "Seduction" and 2.99 million yen for the "Exclusive." Optional packages include the "Panoramic Glass Roof Package" for the "Seduction," which bundles 17-inch alloy wheels and a glass roof (an additional 170,000 yen), and the "Leather Package" for the "Exclusive," which includes black leather seats and front seat heating (an additional 250,000 yen).

The C4 combines the supple ride characteristic of French cars with the practicality of a comfortable interior. In the highly competitive C-segment, a new benchmark has emerged.
