Debut of the 7th Generation Passat, Boasting Fuel Efficiency

Volkswagen has redesigned the Passat sedan and wagon. The new model, sharpened with a horizontal exterior design, is equipped with a new engine that boasts class-leading environmental performance.

18.4 km/l Achieved with 1.4 TSI Unit, CO2 Emissions at 126g/km

The Passat, Volkswagen's top-tier sedan and wagon sold in Japan, is a flagship model that has sold over 15 million units worldwide since its debut in 1973. Last year, it produced approximately 1 million units, surpassing the Golf. This Passat has now evolved into its 7th generation.

The exterior has been updated to the latest Volkswagen trend by the design team led by Walter de Silva. Interior quality has also been further enhanced, increasing comfort.

The powertrain is a highlight, featuring a direct-injection, single-charger engine for the first time, delivering 90kW (122ps) of maximum output and 200Nm (20.4kgm) of maximum torque from just 1.4 liters. All models are equipped with BlueMotion Technology, comprising a 7-speed DSG with a dry clutch, start/stop system, and brake energy regeneration system. Environmental performance achieves class-leading fuel economy of 18.4 km/l in 10-15 mode measurements, with CO2 emissions as low as 126g/km. In terms of fuel efficiency, this represents a remarkable 67% improvement compared to the previous Passat 2.0 FSI model, which produced equivalent maximum torque. This achieves the '75% reduction level for 2005 emission standards (4 stars)' and the '25% fuel economy standard for 2010,' qualifying for a 75% eco-car tax reduction.

The 'Driver Fatigue Detection System,' which detects driver fatigue from inputs to the steering wheel and warns of decreased concentration with an alarm and display, is also standard on all vehicles.

The price point offers high cost performance, starting at 3.24 million yen for the basic Passat TSI Comfortline. The Passat TSI Highline is 3.74 million yen, the Passat Variant TSI Comfortline is 3.46 million yen, and the Passat Variant TSI Highline is 3.96 million yen.
