British Magazine AUTOCAR Releases Driving Footage

British automotive magazine AUTOCAR has released an impression movie of Lamborghini's new flagship, the Aventador LP700-4, on YouTube.

The Final Verdict: Fantastic!

The Aventador LP700-4 is Lamborghini's new flagship, succeeding the Murciélago. It's an ambitious model featuring a newly designed 6.5-liter V12 engine, an ISR transmission that achieves a lightning-fast shift time of 0.05 seconds and is touted as revolutionary, a carbon fiber monocoque, and pushrod suspension. We'll share the details of the Aventador's test drive by Steve Sutcliffe, chief editor of AUTOCAR UK and known for his spirited driving, which has been released on the magazine's YouTube account.

Sutcliffe introduces the new symbol of Lamborghini, stating at the outset, "I'm going to introduce a fast and loud car that's not exactly moral. This is the fastest and loudest model I'll test this year: the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. As you know, Lamborghini doesn't do things by halves. Everything about it, inside and out, is new."

First, he noted the 6.5-liter displacement engine, launched amidst a trend of brands emphasizing ecology. While the 700ps maximum output is undoubtedly immense, he particularly praised the sound emanating from the exhaust. Sutcliffe emphatically stated, "Regardless of how well the ride and handling are executed, this sound alone will captivate you."

As the video shows, the road was wet, so full-throttle driving wasn't possible. Nevertheless, the car's agile movements were astonishing. He marveled at the excellent braking performance, handling, and the tires' grip that seemed to cling to the road. The aerodynamic performance was also superb. However, the speed and smoothness of the gear changes didn't quite reach the level of a strong point.

Among other negative points, he cited the design, stating that the instrument panel is likely to be the most controversial element. "The display itself is quite legible, but it's 'too much.' The speedometer is digital and can be changed by pressing a lever, but such things are unnecessary for the person driving this car," he criticized. He also described it as, "Except for the ride comfort, it's a truly special car," implying that the ride comfort is not exactly comfortable.

Considering this and the price of £250,000 (approximately 35 million yen) in the UK, Sutcliffe concluded, "Fantastic!"
