V6 Model Reduces CO2 Emissions by 40g/km!

The V6 and V8 engines newly adopted for the E-class are the BlueDIRECT engines, also found in the S 350 BlueTEC and CL 550 BlueTEC. They feature advanced piezo injectors that initially inject approximately 95 percent of the fuel, with the remainder injected with a time delay for combustion stabilization. The adoption of systems such as the spray-guided gasoline direct injection and multi-spark ignition has led to improvements in performance and fuel efficiency.

The "E 350 BlueTEC" is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing a maximum output of 225kW and a maximum torque of 370Nm. This represents an increase of 10kW and 5Nm compared to the previous model. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes 6.3 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250km/h. In terms of environmental performance, measured by the European NEDC combined cycle, fuel consumption is 6.8-7.0ℓ/100km. Mercedes states this is the best figure among gasoline models with equivalent performance. CO2 emissions are 159-164g/km, a reduction of approximately 40g/km from before.

Downsized V8 is Powerful and Fuel-Efficient

Meanwhile, the V8 model, "E 500 BlueTEC," is the first to feature twin turbochargers, previously only equipped on the S-class and CL-class 12-cylinder models. The displacement has been significantly downsized from 5.5 liters to 4.6 liters, achieving a maximum output of 300kW (a 15kW increase) and a maximum torque of 600Nm (a 70Nm increase). Fuel efficiency has improved by 17 percent from 10.8ℓ/100km to 8.9km/ℓ. Naturally, CO2 emissions have also decreased significantly, from 253g/km to 209g/km.

In addition to the two models above, the "E 250 BlueTEC" will now come standard with the 7G-TRONIC PLUS 7-speed automatic transmission, which significantly contributes to fuel efficiency through precise control and multiple gear ratios. This results in a 13 percent improvement in fuel economy, to 6.6-7.0ℓ/100km (or 6.8-7.0ℓ/100km for the estate model).

The "E 200 BlueTEC" can also be equipped with the 7G-TRONIC PLUS as an option. When equipped, fuel efficiency is 6.8-7.0ℓ/100km, the same as the E 250 BlueTEC estate model, representing a 14 percent improvement.

Although there is no mention of sales, we look forward to an early introduction.
