The Most Powerful Sports Car Yet, Under 300g/km CO2!
The XKR-S stands at the pinnacle of the Jaguar XK series, featuring a V8 supercharged engine modified specifically for this model, a completely revised suspension, and a newly designed body focused on aerodynamic performance.
“The XKR-S is an exciting and bold new model for Jaguar,” said Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director for Jaguar. “While pursuing pure driving performance, we also expect it to capture the hearts of both our long-standing loyal customers and new fans who desire Jaguar's characteristic comfort, luxury, elegance, and excitement.—
The XKR-S is powered by an engine that produces a maximum output of 405kW (550ps) and a peak torque of 680Nm (69.3kgm), achieving a top speed of 186mph (300km/h). It boasts a 0-60mph (96km/h) acceleration time of 4.2 seconds and a 0-100mph (160km/h) acceleration of just 8.6 seconds, marking it as a true supersport.
Furthermore, the XKR-S is not only the fastest car in Jaguar's history but also its most agile, responsive, and driver-focused. To maximize both handling performance and economy, the development of this car utilized the lightweight, high-rigidity aluminum body structure found in the XK. Consequently, despite its high driving performance, it achieves CO2 emissions below 300g/km, a notable aspect.
For comparison, other V8 models include the Ferrari California with a maximum output of 338kW (460ps) at 298g/km. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage S, recently announced as the most powerful Vantage, produces 321kW (436ps) and emits 299g/km. Audi's flagship sports car, the Audi R8, with its 420ps output, emits 318g/km when equipped with the R tronic. The Porsche 911 GT3, the most powerful in Porsche's production lineup, delivers 320 kW (435 hp) and achieves 298g/km, a figure nearly on par with the XKR-S. This direct comparison highlights the significant emphasis placed on environmental performance in the creation of the XKR-S.
E-Type 50th Anniversary Events Also Held
The exterior design is aggressive, featuring new black mesh grilles and LED headlights, in addition to the front fenders, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a prominent rear wing.
The suspension settings have been exclusively tuned for the XKR-S, enabling more precise control. Meanwhile, the reprogrammed Adaptive Dynamics system allows drivers pursuing ultimate performance to explore the limits of their own driving skills.
Coinciding with the XKR-S announcement, the first of a series of commemorative events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the E-Type's birth in 2011 will take place. A "E-Type Drive" will be organized in Orbe Park, Geneva, a location significant to Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons, who unveiled the original E-Type half a century ago.
Ian Callum, Jaguar's Design Director, stated, “The impact the E-Type had on the world is difficult to fully express in words. The E-Type symbolizes the spirit of that revolutionary era. We are greatly looking forward to the event honoring the E-Type's achievements in Geneva, and to unveiling our newly developed sports car.” The E-Type, a special vehicle in Jaguar's lineage, is also part of the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
