The Final Model?
With a full model change rumored for later this year, the production of the 997 body is likely nearing its end. Amidst this, a limited edition model, arguably a culmination of the 997, is set to debut. Dubbed the Black Edition, this 911, limited to 1,911 units worldwide, lives up to its name with a body entirely cloaked in black, offered as both a coupe and a cabriolet, and equipped with luxurious features.
The distinctive body color for this limited model is solid black as standard, with an optional, more lustrous basalt black metallic available. The cabriolet's soft top is also black. The wheels are 19-inch 911 Turbo II two-tone wheels, and the opposing four-piston aluminum monobloc calipers visible through the wheel spokes are also painted black. Furthermore, a practical and elegantly integrated gray band across the front windshield comes standard, showcasing a meticulous dedication to the color black.
The interior, much like the exterior, is finished in a subdued black. Partial leather seats are standard, with the option to select a full leather interior. The steering wheel is a SportDesign type, and the instrument cluster is also black. A plate indicating the limited production of the 911 Black Edition is affixed to the glove box lid, and the stainless steel door entry guards are engraved with a black "Black Edition" logo. Additionally, the dashboard trim, shift lever, and air vents feature an aluminum-look finish as accents.
The BOSE Surround Sound system is standard for audio. This system, specially tuned for the car's acoustics, features a total of 13 speakers (12 in the cabriolet), including an active subwoofer and a center speaker, powered by a 7-channel digital amplifier with a total output of 385W. Other standard equipment includes the ParkAssist system, cruise control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and door mirrors, and rain sensors.
Allocation for Japan Undecided

Performance is expected to be the same as the base 911 Carrera. The rear-mounted flat-six engine displaces 3,614 cc and produces a maximum output of 254 kW (345 ps) at 6,500 rpm. Paired with a 6-speed transmission, the top speed for both coupe and cabriolet is 289 km/h. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 4.9 seconds for the coupe and 5.1 seconds for the cabriolet. Fuel consumption, a factor unavoidable even for sports car manufacturers today, is a relatively good 10.3 L/100 km (9.7 km/L) for the coupe and 10.4 L/100 km (9.6 km/L) for the cabriolet in the European combined cycle.
PDK is also available, achieving 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.7 seconds for the coupe and 4.9 seconds for the cabriolet. With the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus, which includes a "Launch Control" function and a "Racing Shift Program" for rapid gear changes, response is further enhanced, reducing acceleration times by an additional 0.2 seconds. Fuel efficiency is also superior to the manual models, with the coupe achieving 9.8 L/100 km (10.2 km/L) and the cabriolet 9.9 L/100 km (10.1 km/L).
Other optional features include the Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM) for enhanced sportiness and comfort, or the PASM Sport chassis (coupe only) which lowers the ride height by 20mm and includes an LSD, and the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) for significantly improved braking performance.
This is likely the final iteration of the 997, promising a more refined driving experience. However, the number of units allocated to Japan and pricing have yet to be announced.
