Jaguar's New Mid-Size Saloon "XE" Announced in Japan

Jaguar Land Rover Japan announced on June 2nd the domestic launch of Jaguar's new mid-size saloon, the "XE."

Diesel Engine Models Also Introduced

Jaguar's new saloon, the "XE",last September in Londongrandworld premierefollowingOctoberandJanuary this yearsaw the reservation of an initial limited edition model in Japan, but now sales of the regular models have begun.

The XE's body, which uses 75 percent aluminum to ensure body rigidity while reducing weight, measures 4,680mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,415mm in height. Compared to the BMW "3 Series", considered a rival, it is 55mm longer, 50mm wider, and 35mm lower. It is also 10mm shorter, 40mm wider, and 20mm lower than the Mercedes-Benz "C-Class".

The engine lineup includes the new INGENIUM inline 4-cylinder diesel, entirely designed and produced by the company, two types of inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engines with different outputs, and a V6 supercharged engine. All are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Electronic features include Adaptive Cruise Control for maintaining distance, Autonomous Emergency Braking to avoid or mitigate collisions, Lane Departure Warning, and, as an option, Park Assist for parallel and bay parking using only the brake and accelerator.

Additionally, speed-sensitive electric power steering and split-folding rear seats are adopted for the first time in a Jaguar.

Pricing starts at 4.77 million yen for the "XE Pure" with the 200ps inline 4-cylinder turbo gasoline engine, and 5.15 million yen for the "XE Prestige." The "XE Portfolio" with an inline 4-cylinder engine producing 240ps is 6.42 million yen, and the top-of-the-line "XE S" with a V6 engine is 7.69 million yen. The diesel engine, with a maximum output of 180ps across all models, is priced at 4.97 million yen for the "XE Pure," 5.35 million yen for the "XE Prestige," and 5.49 million yen for the "XE R-Sport." A total of 18 exterior colors are available.

Orders for all models began on June 2nd, with deliveries scheduled from September onwards.

Virtual Drive Experience with Kei Nishikori Also Held

To coincide with the launch of the new Jaguar XE, the "JAGUAR XE GAME CHANGER TOUR," an event offering a virtual drive experience with Jaguar ambassador and professional tennis player Kei Nishikori, will be held in three cities across Japan.

This utilizes thevirtual drive system using head-mounted displays, allowing participants to experience a simulated drive in Spain from the passenger seat of an XE driven by Nishikori.

The event venues are Tokyo Midtown from June 5th (Fri) to 7th (Sun), JR Nagoya Station Event Space from June 12th (Fri) to 14th (Sun), and Grand Front Osaka from June 19th (Fri) to 21st (Sun).
