Sporty Design and More Practical Features
The exterior, refined with a more elegant and sporty design including the front grille, bumper, and taillights, can be said to have approached the Golf in appearance compared to the pre-facelift Eos. The headlights can be chosen as either halogen (H7) or optional bi-xenon. Inside the housing of these bi-xenon headlights, 14 LED lamps are installed and function as daytime running lights. It is safe to assume these are the same units used in Audi vehicles within the same group. Additionally, an optional feature called Light Assist can be selected to assist the main beams. This automatically provides optimal illumination according to traffic conditions, proving effective for safer driving.
The interior is characterized by a new material called Cool Leather. This material reflects sunlight more than regular leather, suppressing the rise in seat temperature, making it an ideal seat material for a convertible. Another notable feature is the newly designed shift lever and shift gate for the DSG.
New features for the 2011 model include the second-generation Park Assist, keyless access lock, and ignition system. The ignition system has been updated from the traditional key slot to a "Press&Drive" button start, and starting the engine remotely is also possible. The roof can also be opened and closed using the remote control.
For the engine, the North American specification is exclusively a 2.0-liter TSI with 147kW (200ps). In the European specification, a similar direct-injection turbo produces a maximum output of 155kW (210ps), generating a maximum torque of 280Nm from 1500 rpm. The top speed is 238 km/h, fuel consumption is 7.1 L/100km (14.1 km/L), and CO2 emissions are 165g/km. For models equipped with DSG, the top speed is 236 km/h, fuel consumption is 7.5 L/100km (13.3 km/L), and emissions are 174g/km.
Other European specifications include a 1.4-liter TSI engine with a single charger producing a maximum output of 90kW (122ps), and a 1.4-liter TSI engine with a twin-charger producing a maximum output of 118kW (160ps). A 2.0-liter direct-injection turbo diesel TDI version with a maximum output of 103kW (140ps) is also available. This version, when equipped with BlueMotion specifications that include idling stop and regenerative energy, offers excellent environmental performance with fuel consumption of 4.8 L/100km (20.8 km/L) and CO2 emissions of 125g/km.
This new Eos is scheduled for sale in Europe from mid-January 2011 and in the United States from the end of March 2011.
