Enhanced with More Land Rover Presence
Land Rover, a prestigious name in premium SUVs, has produced many authentic four-wheel-drive models, including the Range Rover, beloved by the British Royal Family and numerous celebrities. The "Freelander," a premium compact SUV launched in 1997, challenged a new segment of the SUV market and achieved great success.
Subsequently, the second-generation "Freelander 2" was released in Japan in June 2007. By adopting a new inline 6-cylinder 3.2-liter engine with a transverse layout – a first in the compact SUV class – it achieved excellent power performance, safety, and spacious interior.
Furthermore, it comes standard with "Terrain Response™," independently developed by Land Rover, which possesses deep expertise in off-road driving. Terrain Response™ allows the selection of the optimal driving mode from four different surface conditions. It individually adjusts electronic control interventions such as front and rear torque distribution, traction control, and anti-spin devices. The mode is selected by turning a dial located in front of the shifter. In addition to "General Driving" for on-road use, there are modes for "Grass/Gravel/Snow" to enhance rear-wheel drive power, "Mud/Ruts" to prioritize lower gears, and "Sand" for even torque distribution between front and rear wheels. While offering the approachability of an entry-level model, its comprehensive features have earned it high praise.

The Freelander 2 has undergone its first major changes and improvements since its full model change in 2007. Immediately noticeable is the new front bumper and grille, which incorporate fog lamp bezels. This enhances the overall premium feel and aligns the design with other Land Rover models. Additionally, the clear lenses inside the taillights create a sharper appearance by emphasizing contrast with the surrounding black. The door handles, headlamp power wash, and door mirror caps are now color-coded to the body, exuding an even more refined atmosphere. The HSE, a higher-grade model, features newly designed 19-inch alloy wheels, contributing to a significantly more premium image compared to before.
Moving to the interior, the styling of the power-adjustable seats has been revised. New Napoli leather seats have been adopted, and four types of trim finishers are available. Furthermore, the Premium Pack option, available for HSE models, includes Windsor leather power-adjustable seats (8-way driver/6-way passenger) and premium carpet mats.
The vehicle prices are 4.34 million yen for the "Freelander 2 3.2 i6" and 5.84 million yen for the higher-grade model, the "Freelander 2 3.2 i6 HSE" (the Premium Pack option adds 160,000 yen).
Additionally, Land Rover's vehicle prices include the "CO2 Offset Program." Under this program, operated by climate partner ClimateCare, the CO2 emissions for the first 72,000 km of driving for all new vehicles are offset. The value equivalent to the offset program is already incorporated into the vehicle's base price.
CO2 offsetting involves funding projects that reduce carbon dioxide emissions, thereby offsetting one's own CO2 output to achieve net-zero emissions. Through this program, Land Rover supports offset projects such as wind power plants in China and hydropower generators in Tajikistan.
