The New Boxster Spyder Arrives

Porsche unveiled the "Boxster Spyder," the top model of the "Boxster," at the New York Auto Show. They also announced that reservations would begin in Japan on Wednesday, April 15th.

The 981 Boxster Also Features a Distinctive Spyder Silhouette

Porsche'sBoxster"Boxster Spyder," a more sport-driving-focused version of the "Boxster," makes its world premiere at the New York Auto Show. This is the second time this name has graced a catalog model, following the previous 987 generation.previous 987 modelThis marks the second occurrence, following the previous 987 model.

As the name "Spyder," a term typically associated with open-top vehicles, is applied to the two-seater open-top Boxster, the standard Boxster's electric roof has been replaced with a manually operated fabric roof. Naturally, it cannot be opened or closed while driving and is fundamentally intended for open-air use.

The engine is a 3.8-liter flat-six producing a maximum output of 276 kW (375 ps), paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. Specifications include a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds, a top speed of 290 km/h, and fuel economy of 9.9 L/100 km (approximately 10.1 km/L) in European figures. Compared to the high-performance "Boxster GTS" released last March,Boxster GTSit boasts an additional 45 ps, a 0.5-second faster 0-100 km/h acceleration, and a 9 km/h higher top speed.

The suspension features a stiffer sports setup, lowering the vehicle height by 20mm. The brakes are borrowed from the higher-tier "911 Carrera" model.

The exterior also differs from the standard Boxster, with a distinctive silhouette formed by two humps extending from just below the headrests to the rear, and large fins at the rear end. Additionally, parts common with the "Cayman GT4" are used for the front and rear.Cayman GT4are adopted.

Alongside its world premiere, the Boxster Spyder will begin accepting reservations in Japan on Wednesday, April 15th. The price, including tax, is 10.12 million yen, with both left-hand and right-hand drive options available.
