An Ambitious Work Venturing into Uncharted Lexus Territory

As previewedLexus unveiled its new concept model, the "LF-SA," at the Geneva Motor Show. Described as "a completely new model unlike anything in Lexus's current lineup," it was a compact car with dimensions of 3,450mm in length, 1,700mm in width, and 1,430mm in height.

Smaller than the current Lexus compact, theCT" is comparable in size to the Toyota Passo, the Volkswagenup!" and the Fiat500", and the RenaultTwingo", and thesmart" which has not yet arrived in Japan, among others.

The name "LF-SA" stands for "Lexus Future Small Adventurer," embodying the idea of pursuing the joy of driving even in a future with advanced autonomous driving technology. It is a design study that reflects this spirit.

The front features a spindle grille that covers the entire face with a radiating pattern centered on the emblem, strongly asserting its Lexus identity despite its small size. This spindle seamlessly extends from the front fenders to the sides, forming deeply sculpted lines that continue to the rear.

The rear combination lamps, which protrude outwards, adopt the L-shaped motif common to Lexus. Furthermore, the flared rear fender lines create a spindle grille shape when viewed directly from behind.

The front and rear wheel arches, along with the connecting sills, are bordered with a novel design featuring marble-like patterns. The distinctive wheels have ornaments extending from the center, separate from the arms, reaching beyond the edges to the tire sidewalls. The tires themselves have a unique tread pattern designed to match this overhang, with a layered appearance.

The interior is designed with a dashboard that arcs, creating a visually expansive space. Due to limited space, the driver's seat is fixed, and the "seat position" is adjusted by moving the pedals and steering wheel. Access to the minimalist rear seats, designated as "+2" rather than "4-seater," is through the passenger side, which features a sliding mechanism.

While the LF-SA is a design study created as part of Lexus's 25th anniversary overseas, it is an ambitious work that also sparks anticipation for the actual arrival of a premium city commuter bearing the Lexus emblem.
