The most powerful MINI ever

Amidst the large cars dominating the Detroit Auto Show, the MINI, though small in stature, commanded a significant presence. It might be surprising, but the MINI Cooper is widely accepted in the United States.

The MINI John Cooper Works had its world premiere in Detroit. At the MINI booth, where companions dressed in black, reminiscent of a race track, added to the vibrant atmosphere, this sportiest of MINI models stood out.

This model, with its youthful two-tone paint scheme and red stripe, boasts a maximum output of 170 kW (231 hp) at 5,200-6,000 rpm, the highest in MINI's history. Torque reaches 320 Nm at 1,250-4,800 rpm. It is powered by a wonderfully sporty 2-liter, 4-cylinder engine.

Output is up 10 percent and torque has increased by 23 percent compared to the previous generation. Equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission, it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds, delivering the high performance expected by those familiar with previous John Cooper Works models.

MINI explains, "The engine, suspension, and aerodynamics have been refined based on our motorsport experience, delivering a superb driving experience."

The aerodynamic parts, befitting the John Cooper Works, are impressive and make the new model instantly recognizable. The interior is also sporty, sure to catch the eye of car enthusiasts. Furthermore, the new model is equipped with the latest safety features, including adaptive cruise control.
