Stylish and Flowing Proportions Befitting a Jaguar
London, September 8, 2014. After long being the subject of rumors and a teaser campaign by Jaguar Cars itself,Jaguar XEits true form was finally revealed.
The long-awaitedJaguar XE Debut Ceremonywas a truly dramatic production: suspended from a helicopter and transported, then taken down the River Thames by high-speed landing craft, followed by a road journey led by a 1960s Jaguar Mark 2 police car, before finally appearing at the "Earls Court Arena" event venue, where celebrities representing modern Britain awaited. This illustrates just how significant the birth of this car is for British automotive enthusiasts.
The 4-door saloon's body design clearly embodies the new design language applied to modern Jaguars since the "XF" by Jaguar's Chief Designer, Ian Callum. Although more compact than the XF, it skillfully achieves the stylish and flowing proportions befitting a Jaguar.
However, what is even more interesting is the internal structure of the body. As Jaguar Cars has revealed, its monocoque utilizes lightweight aluminum for 75 percent of the entire vehicle structure. The company describes it as "the only model in the D-segment to adopt an aluminum monocoque."
The body dimensions are 4,672mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,416mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,835mm, which are standard for this class. Nevertheless, the curb weight for the officially announced home-market specification vehicle is 1,474kg or more, making it exceptionally lightweight for its class.

Can it Reshape the Premium D-Segment Landscape?
The suspension features double wishbones at the front, manufactured using a patented forging process for cast aluminum, a technique shared with Jaguar's true sports car, the F-TYPE. The rear utilizes an integral link system, commonly found in large luxury vehicles, achieving a balance of precise handling and supple ride comfort.
Furthermore, as expected of a state-of-the-art model, it is packed with advanced technologies to support safe driving, such as All Surface Progress Control (ASPC) for assistance on slippery surfaces like frozen roads, a laser head-up display (HUD), and a stereo camera system for collision avoidance, mitigation, and lane departure warning.
The model making its debut this time is the high-performance, top-tier "XE S," equipped with the 3-liter V6 supercharged unit producing 340ps and 450Nm of torque, also shared with the F-TYPE. However, it is confirmed that a 2-liter inline-4 gasoline turbo and a new generation 2-liter inline-4 diesel turbo, dubbed "INGENIUM," will also be available. The V6 supercharged model will feature an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the 4-cylinder engine variants are planned to be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The "D-segment premium" market, into which the Jaguar XE is about to make its entry, is a fiercely competitive arena with a multitude of compelling models such as BMW's "3 Series", Mercedes-Benz's "C-Class", Audi's "A4", Lexus's "IS", and Cadillac's "ATS". Within this landscape, the Jaguar XE appears to possess the potential to reshape the existing power dynamics.
The price in the UK is set to start from £27,000 (approximately ¥4.7 million).
All details, including final specifications and pricing for each model, will be revealed at theParis Motor Show, which opens on October 2nd. Until then, we shall wait with anticipation.
