Classic Exterior, Cutting-Edge EV Heart

Unveiled at this year's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the "MINI Superleggera Vision" is a concept model based on the MINI, coachbuilt by Italian carrozzeria Touring Superleggera into a classic-styled sports car. Touring Superleggera has been involved in custom car design since 1926 and is one of the few remaining coachbuilders that handles everything from initial sketches to model production and actual customization in-house.

Its front retains the hexagonal grille and round headlights,New MINIwhile incorporating classic sports car styling through features like the three-dimensional lines on the bonnet and clearly protruding wheel arches.

The blacked-out grille, featuring round fog lights and a horizontal design, reflects the characteristics of MINI's sporty models. The front lip spoiler, rear diffuser, and side skirts are sportily finished in CFRP. In the side view, polished aluminum side mirrors, emerging from the base of the low windscreen, emphasize the car's classical aesthetic.

The split rear combination lights, with chrome accents, mimic the Union Jack, appealing to MINI's British heritage. While the rear end has a classical appearance, the use of LED lighting and the absence of visible exhaust pipes reveal that this car is, in fact, a cutting-edge electric vehicle.

Seamless Bodywork Achieved Through Advanced Craftsmanship

The body panels of the MINI Superleggera Vision, finished in a color called "Como Blue," exhibit virtually no seams. This is achieved by hand-shaping large aluminum sheets, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship from Touring Superleggera as a coachbuilder.

The interior is also constructed primarily from metal – aluminum and black chrome – and leather, evoking a classic sports car feel. Notably, the dashboard is formed from a single aluminum sheet, its solid surface enhancing the sporty impression. The simplified three-spoke steering wheel, devoid of control switches, and the independent, single-dial meters are also homages to classic sports cars.

The touch-panel "MINI Vision," now "MINI Leggera Vision," centrally located on the console, fits seamlessly. The round button to its right is a "recording button"; pressing it activates a camera embedded between the driver and passenger seats to capture the drive. Further to the right, an analog clock is also present. Below the console, where MINI typically features audio and switchgear, the design is simplified, with only a main switch remaining on a slender pipe.

The two seats are black leather sports seats. The doors feature a Union Jack design rendered in piping. Furthermore, in keeping with MINI's playful spirit, accents in "Mystic Magenta" are applied throughout, such as the oval warm air vents beneath the dashboard and on the steering wheel spokes.

While the MINI Superleggera Vision is purely a design study model by a carrozzeria, it aligns closely with the concept of the third-generation MINI – cloaking the latest technology in a classical exterior. Its influence on future derivative models is highly anticipated.
