World Premiere for ActiveHybrid 5, Third Hybrid Model from BMW
Making its world premiere at this Tokyo Motor Show is the "ActiveHybrid 5," a hybrid sedan based on the "5 Series."
The "ActiveHybrid 5," BMW's third hybrid model, is equipped with a straight-six gasoline engine and an electric motor. It features an 8-speed automatic transmission and a high-output lithium-ion battery, achieving efficient energy management.
The engine alone produces a maximum output of 225 kW (306 ps), while the electric motor delivers 40 kW (55 ps), for a combined maximum output of 250 kW (340 ps). Notably, it can operate in zero-emission mode at speeds up to 60 km/h. In terms of environmental performance, fuel consumption is 6.4 L/100 km, an improvement of approximately 20 percent compared to the BMW 535i Sedan, with CO2 emissions kept to 149-163 g/km.
Japan Premiere for Diesel Model, First Introduction to Japan
Also making its Japan premiere is the "X5 xDrive35d," a diesel model powered by a 3-liter straight-six diesel engine, marking BMW's first introduction of a diesel model to Japan. The powertrain boasts a maximum output of 180 kW (245 ps), with a maximum torque of 540 Nm available across a wide rpm range from 1,750 to 3,000 rpm.
To ensure clean exhaust emissions, the vehicle is equipped with a diesel particulate filter, an oxidation catalytic converter, and an "AdBlue" system that injects urea. By injecting urea, nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gas are converted into nitrogen and water vapor, enabling a reduction in NOx concentration.
Additionally, BMW will exhibit the "X1 xDrive20i" featuring a new generation of straight-four engines with TwinPower Turbo technology, the new "1 Series," "6 Series Coupe," "ActiveHybrid 7," and a concept model, details of which have not yet been revealed.
