Diesel Model Finally Joins Maserati Lineup
Rumored for some time, theQuattroportewas officially previewedat its Japan debutand photos of the Maserati "Ghibli" have now been released ahead of the Shanghai Motor Show.
The name Ghibli originates from a two-door, two-seater coupe designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, which debuted in 1966. Production of this first-generation Ghibli ceased in 1973, and the name was revived in 1992 as the "Ghibli II," which was then a four-seater, two-door coupe.
This new Ghibli is the third model to bear the Ghibli name. It appears as a four-door sports sedan, resembling a slightly smaller Quattroporte.
According to Maserati, the Ghibli will be offered with two types of 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo engines. The transmission will be an 8-speed automatic, with both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive "Q4" models available.
Furthermore, for the first time in Maserati's history, a model equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine will be added to the lineup.
This is Maserati's trump card, aiming for an annual sales target of 50,000 units.
