New front mask and 4WD significantly refresh the E 63 AMG

The new E 63 AMG is the flagship model of the current E-Class minor change, which was unveiled in Europe in December 2012. Like other E-Class models, it adopts newly designed headlights that have been significantly refreshed, utilizing LEDs.

The revised standard E-Class uses two different front grilles depending on the model lineup, similar to the C-Class. However, the E 63 AMG features an even sportier, also newly designed, front grille. Its design clearly identifies it as an AMG model at first glance.

A key highlight is the adoption of 4MATIC (4WD) for the first time in an E-Class AMG model, in addition to the traditional rear-wheel-drive model. This 4MATIC is a sporty 4WD system tuned by AMG, with a torque distribution of 33:67 front to rear.

The engine remains the same 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo. However, the maximum output for models equipped with the AMG Performance Package has increased from 557 hp (410 kW) to 585 hp (430 kW) (maximum torque remains the same at 81.6 kgm). The maximum output of the standard model has also been increased from 524 hp (386 kW) to 557 hp (410 kW). Maximum torque has been improved from 71.4 kgm (700 Nm) to 73.4 kgm (720 Nm).

Additionally, a new top-tier model, the 'S model,' has been added to the E 63 AMG lineup. With a maximum output of 585 hp (430 kW) and maximum torque of 81.6 kgm (800 Nm), this model also features 4MATIC (4WD) and comes standard with a rear-locking differential. While the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, the 0-100 km/h acceleration is a swift 3.6 seconds for the S model, compared to 4.2 seconds for the E63 AMG Sedan. The 'S' designation is clearly well-earned. Naturally, this S model is also available as a station wagon.

The new lineup and engine outputs are as follows:
E 63 AMG Sedan | Maximum output 557 hp (410 kW) / Maximum torque 73.4 kgm (720 Nm)
E 63 AMG 4MATIC Sedan / Stationwagon | Maximum output 557 hp (410 kW) / Maximum torque 73.4 kgm (720 Nm)
E 63 AMG 4MATIC S Model Sedan / Stationwagon | Maximum output 585 hp (430 kW) / Maximum torque 81.6 kgm (800 Nm)

The rear-wheel-drive E 63 AMG Sedan is scheduled to go on sale in April, while the four-wheel-drive E 63 AMG 4MATIC Sedan/Stationwagon (including the S model) will be available from June.
