The Urus Could Still Be Coming
Lamborghini has long been rumored to be preparing a full model change for the Gallardo. However, what was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show (Paris Salon) were only two points: a facelift for the "Gallardo LP560-4," and the evolution of the top models, the "LP 570-4 Superleggera" and "LP 570-4 Spyder Performante," into "Edizione Tecnica versions." For fans eagerly awaiting a new model, the news may have been somewhat disappointing.
What is the plan for future new model introductions? We asked Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann at the motor show.
"We still have the desire to introduce a third model following the Gallardo and Aventador. For Automobili Lamborghini, this is a top priority. Alongside this, this year's Geneva Motor Showwas announced at"Aventador Jota"we are also considering the addition of one-off models like the "Aventador Jota," and limited-production models with very small production runs."
this April's Beijing Motor Showfeatured the concept car"Urus"which also signaled an ambition to enter the SUV market.
"The feedback from the Beijing Motor Show was tremendous. We subsequently unveiled it in Europe and America, and the response from dealers has been beyond our expectations. We haven't decided whether to launch the Urus yet. However, we are continuing to move the project forward."
These words suggest that the possibility of commercializing the "Urus" still remains.
Finally,"Aventador"we asked about the impact of its launch on the Lamborghini brand.
"Aventador sales are extremely strong. We were confident in the Aventador's success even before its launch and had made sufficient production plans, but upon its actual release, we realized even those were insufficient and recently doubled our production plans. Even so, customers are currently waiting up to 15 months for delivery. There is no doubt that this model has enhanced Lamborghini's visibility. I believe the Aventador is a model that perfectly embodies the Lamborghini brand."
