Enjoy a Smooth Ride, Like It's on Rails

While the popularity of station wagons may be slightly declining, many have eagerly awaited this car. The Volkswagen Golf Variant, the station wagon version of the Volkswagen Golf, was released in Japan on July 28, 2021.
The Golf Variant, with a total length of 4640mm, is a practical size. Generally, station wagons, compared to SUVs, tend to offer a more comfortable ride due to their lower height, which allows for more parking options, and greater freedom of movement for the suspension arms. The Golf Variant was no exception.
Station wagons are particularly well-suited for those who enjoy activities like day camping. The new Golf Variant is 65mm longer than its predecessor, with a 22-liter increase in luggage space. The rear seat area is also more than spacious enough for two adults of 175cm, making it quite versatile.
Furthermore, the new Golf series offers improved maneuverability. This is particularly noticeable when descending roads with many curves. The steering wheel is precise, and the car's response to steering inputs is quick. As you enter a curve, body roll is suppressed, allowing you to enjoy a smooth ride as if it were on rails.
The first-generation Golf was unveiled in 1974 and was treated as a representative imported car in Japan from the 1970s to the 1980s. Although the price set by the Japanese importer at the time was quite high, car enthusiasts made an effort to acquire one.
Those who loved the Golf back then might want to experience the latest model. This is because the fundamental aspects of the car are so well executed.
The Golf Variant models introduced in Japan are equipped with a 1-liter 3-cylinder engine and a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. Both feature a mild-hybrid system that utilizes an electric motor for functions like starting off.
Both offer distinct characteristics. While the 1-liter engine's output is somewhat modest, it delivers enjoyable performance once cruising speed is achieved. This is likely due to the car's excellent aerodynamics and low tire rolling resistance. Its cruising performance on highways is particularly noteworthy.
